V7 III Fuel Cap

My question to Todd, however: The standard V7III gas cap has a cage in the tank opening that provides two things: a necked hole for the fuel filler nozzle and an air hole. When filling the tank, I top up until the fuel comes up to the air hole, which leaves the correct, minimum amount of air space at the top of the tank; it prevents over-filling the tank. So my question has to do with whether this cage would stay in place with either the Monza or CNC popup caps.
You'll remove the stock cap completely, and thread the pop-up or put Monza cap parts in. Nothing else.

The Monza cap sold for the Triumph Bonneville screws right in the Guzzi V7 tank, 10 minutes max. Looks fine per attached, except now it shows the factory blue paint didn't make it all the way around the filler. I'll ride tomorrow to see if it leaks. The hole for the pump nozzle is now right up to the side, so I'll check that too.

Yup ... that looks nice!

Since the factory paint is a little deficient right around the filler neck, I'd take the cap off again, dry it out thoroughly, and paint a flat black surround circle over the thinly painted area so it looked neat.

So what is the cost for the CNC retractable knob cap? It looks beautiful.
Looks like I can get both soon(-ish) from my distributor. The Monza cap they are offering looks of nicer quality then the one posted above. Cost for both it and the adapter would be $119.95. For the retractable knob version, it's $49.95 - black or $59.95 in chrome -- if you want one, I'll put it on the online Store here. Post if you do.

Ooh, now that's a difficult decision!

Considering ... I think a black cap on a silver tank would look a bit funky, especially with the leather strap surround detail. No, I'll stick with chrome: it matches to many more different colors than a black would (I'd see a black cap on a black or red tank looking good, but other than that the chrome looks better against almost every other color to my eye...).

Interested in the Monza cap when it becomes available. Like the idea of not having a loose gas cap to drop or drip.

I just used a dremel and roughed the paint off.. then polished my 2017 v7iii cap.. .looks great now! I have done many little things like that to the bike. I have grinded the mold marks off the foot controls and polished parts of it for a more vintage feel, I've brushed the headlight bezel and also sanded down the machine finish on the bright work of the motor then polished it as well. Looks more vintage, that machined finish to me looked plastic.
