EDIT: answered my own question. Skid plate stays, covers are gone.
I may look into doing a serious skid plate for these, if (pre-paid) interest is out there. I see a handful of companies coming out of the proverbial woodwork thinking they’ll make a buck. Jokes on them.

I imagine aluminum is $$, slightly weaker, but lighter than steel. So I have this right? Bare aluminum I think would be a good option.
Yes, and all metal prices right now are sky-high. Steel being much cheaper, even once powder-coated. Let me put a design together to show if there's more than just you interested... if so, please post below.

Gamma Zinken makes a good looking skid plate and extension out of 5MM aluminum.
store.gammazinken.net/epages/161079.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/161079/Products/SM602015 make a deal to distribute. Price is similar to other adventure bike alloy skidplates.

Also todd you might want to look into having Eline enduro make you a carbon kevlar composite skid plates I used to use those on enduro
bike damn near indestructable and very light. @elineaccessories.com

Thanks Neil. Small companies like this will typically have no interest because there is no volume ($) to be had, or they want me to absorb most of the R&D cost by ordering large quantities, or most often will make them to sell directly on their website(s) or large online businesses. I'll reach out to them though, appreciated.

Also If your feeling energetic come out with a better crash bar most of the ones on the market are minimal with the exception of Givi.

I will be watching this thread. The factory skid plate and heat shields don’t look very strong.

If Todd is making it, it will be first quality for sure!

As a side note to California riders, a steel skid plate will hold a nice rare earth magnet securely to it, so as to trip those idiotic sensors in the street to trigger a traffic light!

I'm not particularly familiar with your sensors but I'd guess a steel skid plate might do the job by itself.

Possibly. I haven’t lived in CA for almost 20 years but back then, those stupid light triggers in the street, would never recognize a motorcycle but if you use a rare earth magnet, they would trigger like you were a giant Cadillac. 😆

They are way better now Scott. Most of SoCal has been set up so that even bicycles trip them now. When I first landed here, it was infuriating for sure.
