I have a 2017 V7 iii and while doing the clave clearances, I try to hold the adjustment screw in place while I tighten back up the locking nut around it. However I can never seem to keep the adjustment screw exactly in place and it ends up tightening just enough where I have to do it all over again. Any tips for keeping that damn thing in place?

Wind the adjustment screw back an1/8th of a turn, then as you tighten the lock nut it will drag the adjust screw around with it and hopefully be at the correct clearance. 1/8th is a ball park figure for you to play around with. The lock nut doesn't have to be super tight, just nipped up and then a bit. People have snapped the adjuster or stripped the threads by being over zealous.

On the Moto Guzzi V7III Basic Service Tutorial Youtube vid by GT Motorcycles, there is mention of a "fancy tool" that Guzzi makes for this job. I've looked for this tool but haven't been able to track it down - might help make things easier for you if you can find one.

I had a tool years ago for OHV engines to adjust the tappets, It was called a "SPQR tappet adjuster". I have just done a search on line and similar tools are available, its a socket and screwdriver in one tool, could that be "The Fancy Tool"
