Bypassing the startup Fob

This is so easy, remove the left side pannel, turn the ignition on unplug the alarm system and put the plug in adaptor that they gave you with all the paper work

Thank you! I will look when I get home for all of the paperwork etc. Can you tell me what said plug looks like (picture?)

Thanks again!

I installed the bypass plug that came with the bike. No more key fob. The setup looked more likely to strand an owner than a thief.

Stephen

Where can a man find such bypass plug??? I am in need to silence this alarm thingy for good!! Tnx...

I struggled with reprogramming the alarm for a few days. I finally found the plug with the wire loop that the PO gave me along with the manual. I’ve loaded a couple of pictures, quality sucks but you get the idea.. Interesting fact, the PO purchased the 2017 California from Grand Prix Motorcycles in San Diego, might be worth a call to their parts dept if you don’t have the plug w/ loop...

Disabled mine the other day as per the procedure listed in this post. Works a treat but you have to be quick. get someone else to read the instructions. Took four attempts getting quicker each time. Now if I want the alarm on I can use the fob, otherwise just key in and start.
I like to find that plug to disable my 1400 touring (2014) alarm...it did not come with my bike ...owner lost it...
Is there any pictures available how just to unplug the alarm...under left side cover???!

Wow
I have gone through the procedure three times and have gotten all the correct Beeps & Boops but the bike keeps rearming?? I HAD the plug from my old guzzi sitting on my desk here forever being I was going to take a pic of it and ask here on the forum what it was for and NOW that I know what its for I can't find the Frigging thing :banghead:

Stupid question 1: If you disable the security system via the described sequence, are the fobs still needed near the mc to start it?
Stupid question 2: If you use the bypass plug on the security system, that takes the fobs completely out of the picture permanently?

I've never been involved on an install of this system. The Touring model comes with them installed, and no one we know has added it.
Q1. Technically no.
Q2. If you unplug the device (pictured above on post #68), one would assume it should disable the system completely and allow normal keyed operation. Perhaps someone here can test it and post? If not, next we have one in the shop I will.

If you turn off the auto arming and change it to manual ( Like I'm trying to do ) you will only need the fob if you want to turn the alarm on/off Manually. From what I've read if you just unplug the alarm and reinstall the ( factory provided) harness plug its done and you no longer have a alarm system. I lost the damn plug but found out AF1 carries them ( $16.99 ) so I have one coming in the mail and in the meantime I will try the dis arming procedure a few more times

Thank you both for the quick responses!
Stupid question 3: Does bypassing the alarm system with the factory-provided plug negate the need for the 5 digit code entry?

No, I do not believe so That is part of the built in key transponder recognition system. This is different than the alarm.

Final (hopefully) stupid question:
My key fob has 2 buttons. One seems a bit larger than the other one. Which one is being used in this procedure?

Dan, I disarmed my FOB last year, The procedure is rather intricate and i did take my a few tries to get it. I did find it was easier if someone else was reading the direction to me as i performed the steps.

1. Start the engine, then shut it off. Set the manual alarm by pushing the key fob button within a few seconds of shut down. The system is now fully armed.
2. Immediately after arming it (the book says within 10 seconds) turn the key on, the alarm will beep once.
3. Push the arming button on the key fob 4 times. The bike will make a sound you never heard before (the book calls it a Boop) 4 times. This confirms that you did it right. If you don't hear 4 Boops, start over again.
4. Turn the key Off. The system is now ready for reprogramming.
5. Turn the key on then off 7 times and then one more time ON (a total of 8 turn-ons). The LED on the side panel (the "real" alarm indicator) should be on.
6. Press the key fob arming button twice. You should hear the weird Boop noise again, confirming the action.
7. Turn the ignition Off and then press the key fob button one last time to exit reprogramming mode.

The red blinker on the dash will continue to blink (it's a decoy and has nothing to do with the actual alarm system), but the Real alarm LED, on the front of the left side panel, will remain off. The alarm will now NOT automatically set. However, if you want to set the full alarm, just use the button.
It took me 3 trial but I got it..! thanks. 1 bip= disarmed. 2 bips= armed. Big button is panic button.
