There should be a handful here that knew or even briefly met him. John Boettcher (JB Weld as he was known) passed yesterday from injuries related to a crash involving a wild turkey.
He was an entertaining hard core Guzzisti who would ride year round for his job all over the U.S. I got to know him well on many of his visits here to SoCal, including my National Rally in 2008.
Ride in Peace John. I’ll give a Guzzi throttle salute to you today.

Peace be with him. :(

If not for an unbelievable chain of events , my brother would be with him ! Wild turkeys
crashed through his HD windshield and knocked him into a ditch , 16 broken ribs , 2 punctured lungs
and laying deep in ditch water . Hard to imagine after all these years of motorcycling that
this is how it ended , deepest regrets , Peter

Thanks for the update Peter. Was your brother supposed to be riding with him? Life is short. Enjoy it to the fullest. I think JB did; Cheers my friend.

No ,this happened in Ontario almost 8 or 10 years ago , made it in the Ottawa TV news . A doctor left work early that day and took a back drive home . Came across a car stopped by the road and saw the bike in the ditch further up the road . Other fellow had a jack
knife and a couple of ball point pens with him . The doc realizing my brother was turning blue , cut the ends from both pens and with
the jack knife cut a couple of holes in his chest and then drove the empty pens into the outside of each lung and let the air that was
collapsing his lungs escape and in a short time his colour came back and they stayed until an ambulance arrived . Never fails to amaze
me how dangerous animals ( and birds ) can be . Peter

RIP fellow Guzzisti.

Deer are the reason I never ride at night around here. Just missed a flying turkey a few weeks ago and on Tuesday I got a little too close for comfort with a vulture on the wing.

Just got the update, ironically it was a wild turkey that took him out... Hit his windscreen and caused him to veer off the road and into a road side ditch with standing water. Massive chest injuries including both lungs that he didn't survive. Ride on JB, you'll be missed by many.
