Riding to work early in the morning about three weeks ago and hit a deer with my bike at 50 mph. No time to brake, it happened too fast. When I hit it, it knocked out my headlamp, so it was pitch dark for the ensuing wreck. I went 100 feet on the road then off road I tumbled for another 150 feet before stopping. Anyway, broken collar bone, and smashed up knees were my only injuries. At some point the front of my helmet broke off and cut my nose. Ah well, I needed a project bike to build this winter anyway.....lol. Here are a few before and after pics:

WHOA!! You were very lucky! That V7 is very nice BTW...

I hit a deer once while riding my Monster, luckily it was a fawn and I hit it with my leg, so it didn't upset the steering but
it was bloody excruciating!!

Sorry to hear this. Hope the knees and collar heal well. Also hope the project doesn't get too involved.

Damn deer. You'd think natural selection would take out their "aim for the vehicle" trait.

Damn deer.

That looks like a write-off, you buying it back?

Thanks for the responses, a big shout out to Joe! The insurance estimate came back Friday for $5500. I don't know if my insurance will total it or not. I am getting the bike back either way, it will be a good opportunity to build it back nicer than it was. I figure I will knock the dents out of the fuel tank and then paint it with a retro look. Maybe a Stucchi fairing.....hmm. All kinds of possibilities. I'll post pics on here of the rebuild.
Cheers!

Deer really scare me - takes all the fun out of riding certain areas and times of day. If you see one, you can bet there's more. By the way, what are you using as a gas tank? I've already had a plastic one replaced due to warping and anticipate a switch to metal sometime in the future.

Thanks and heal fast.

It's an old WBO Racing tank for a Tonti frame Guzzi. I had to fabricate different mounts for it, cut a big hole in the bottom, and mount the fuel pump. It turned out pretty good. The tank has two huge dents in the side now from my knees, LOL. Here is a side by side pic.

I am glad you came away alive  Will be praying for a fast recovery :D Have fun with the insurance company

What make helmet were you wearing that the front broke off :?:

Mike-
Sorry to hear about your run in with the deer. Hope you heal quickly. I think I've seen you once heading West on Chestnut by Glenwood school. Anything I can do to help, please let me know.

- Dave

Hey Old Man Job, the helmet was a Bombardier BVS II snowmobile helmet. I used it for cold weather because the face shield doesn't fog up. I plan on getting another one, they can't be beat for riding when it's cold.

Hey Dave, yep, that would have been me on West Chestnut. What do you ride? I know of only one other Guzzi in town, an SP that been garaged for some time.

Cheers, Mike

Gad Mike, sorry to hear about the accident. Get well soon, fix the bike and if Arizona has a Guzzi rally in 2012, you're welcome to hang at my place on your way to and/from the rally.

P.S., I can't seem to get my signature fixed, I'm in Arizona, not Oklahoma.

Damn, that sucks!
Make sure you have your knees checked. I had an accident last year, and me left knee hit the fuel tank. An MRI found all kinds of ligament damage, which required surgery to clean it up. Still having to go in for therapy until it's 100%. Sucks for me because it WAS my good knee.

Mike-
I ride a 2010 Black V7C. Hope to add something larger one of these days, possibly a Norge. Again if I can help out in any way, or if you just want to get a cup of coffee and talk bikes let me know. I'm in the phone book.

Hey Carl, bike will be fixed soon! Thanks for the invite, Payson is a good stop on the way to Prescott. Speaking of road critters, you know when you ride out of Payson to the East, there is a side road just out of town called Lion Springs Rd.
Anyway, I just about hit a mountain lion there with my car. I was surprised it was that close to town.
Cheers!

Man, still doing therapy after a year! Thanks for the heads up, my left knee has been really slow getting better, I have a follow up appointment with the Doc next week. If it's not better by then I'll get an MRI and see what's up with it. I still have a good knee for now...LOL
Cheers
