Hey guys

So I search there doesn't seem to be a right up on the how to of swapping handle bars.

It looks straight forward but I've never wrenched on a MC before so I'm a little nervous.

Do I have to disconnect the throttle cable from throttle control to remove?

Any help and advice would be much appreciated....I would rather do it then the dealer...

Thanks

Matt

No, it's pretty easy. Remove switchgear and the mirrors (brackets, too). Take everything off except the throttle tube. Loosen the bracket that holds the throttle in position. Remove the bolts that hold the handlebars to the triple tree. Remove the handlebars and just slide them out of the throttle tube. Reverse to re-install.

Tip: Remove the left hand grip before you remove the bars. It helps when you try to work the grip loose. Some people recommend just shooting air between the grip and the bar, some swear by hairspray. I've always just used an ice pick to create a gap between the grip and the bar and then shot some Windex in there. Comes right loose. If you use Windex to put the grip back on, it my be loose, but the Windex will dry out over night and it won't move in the morning.

When I do a handlebar swap, I suspend the new bars over the old bars (usually by ratchet straps over the garage ceiling joists). You may need to tape the ratchet strap S hooks to the handle bars so they don't slide around. I then swap one side at a time, and lower the new bars into place.
