Live near the OP and this bike belong to me 2 buyers back. Turn out the forward transmission seal leaking into bell housing. The motor will need pulled, casing split. Big job. Hate to see my old bike suffer such tragedy. Just glad I dodge the frocking bullet.
Bikes got about 23,000 miles on it.
The problem with that front seal was posted on here before. The first year with the wet alternator did present a few leaks from memory. I think it was a case of tightening and or replacing that seal. I also think a wire harness seal had caused issues exiting that front cover.
Looks like the OP ran away from this thread. My guess he over filled the transmission.
I tell people all the time these bikes are not for new riders who have not yet developed mechanical skills.
The problem being most Jap bikes for example only require a simple oil change and people just never...
Check those oil breather hoses from the head that go back to the airbox, one of those could have come loose and now blowing oil on the top of the motor.
It could also be the transmission is over filled. Did you recently change the transmission oil? Even slightly over filled will cause it to...
They changed that breather hose routing on the V72 compared to the 2013 from what I understand?
I think they were trying to address the oil feed issue into the airbox. Sounds like they did ok with it maybe.
I've had issue with this on other bikes. Common issue with the breather hoses going...
Hopefully the red plastic tool remained in the tool bag that help remove and tighten the dip stick plug?
Make sure you use that to tighten that dip stick plug, otherwise it will loosen up and spit oil all over your right foot, been there done that.
Also if you ever need my phone number it's...
Change the spark plugs and adjust the valves, I think the valves probably are out of whack. I don't think that Russian guy did anything to that bike is my guess, so the valves have not been adjusted since I adjusted them at the 15,000 mark. That bike always started first try for me hot or cold...
Is this a white 2013? I sold my white 2013 to a Russian guy last year (Rocklin). If it's my bike it should have the extended sump on it which means you can get an extra 3/4 quart of oil into it. That could be why the oil is only showing up on the tip of the stick. I still have a racer seat and...
If you only own one bike and are not mechanically incline, new to motorcycles, I would go with the Triumph Bonneville or any Honda.
The V7 is a small market of folks who enjoy doing their own work. The little things don't bother them that need to be adjusted, fixed or replaced by themselves...
I'm happy with the Triumph Bonneville. 37,000 miles without any issues.
The V7 holds the distinction after owning 36 motorcycles as the worse one of all. YYIKES!!!
The valve adjustment easy and then beyond that a nightmare from Elm Street on steroids.
I'm not the only one with that...
I bailed out of my V7 also. Had nothing but trouble with the bike and could not remain keeping it. Sold it fast within a couple weeks and picked up a 2016 Honda 500F model. Also own 2007 Triumph Bonneville with 37,000 miles since new and never have had an issue with the bike. Have already put...
Strange to read this, Myself I've never like powerful front brakes. I've got one now on a CB500 that'll get you into trouble in a New York second. Hate that.
