Upgraded from my V7 III to the V85TT in February. A bit of a custom as I had grey bodywork put on an Adventure and will run the Urban bags from the Travel instead of the OEM aluminum. VIN ZGUKW009LM000197
What would it take to mount a V7 II scrambler pipe on a V7 III? I know the rear mount will be different but I can handle that. What else wouldn't match?
Along with installing the MT-60's I added stiffer progressive rate Ikon springs to the front and 20mm longer Hagon shocks to the back. The bike still feels very planted but with easier turn in. Sits a bit higher too which is not a bad thing when I put the MT-60s to work on gravel and dirt roads...
I installed Hagon shocks that are 20mm longer than OEM. Probably yielded a similar geometry change as dropping the forks and 1) gave me more compliance, 2) proper spring for my weight and 3) slightly higher seat height which helps the knees. Also installed Ikon progressive springs in the front...
And I finally got around to installing the Pirelli MT-60's and put a couple hundred miles on them. At very low speed I can feel the lugs on the rear but it's a total non-issue above 10 mph. At first they felt a little tipsy compared to the Demons but with a couple hours and miles they have set...
Love the idea of a "smaller" Stelvio and would certainly consider owning a V85. Only problem is that I prefer more subdued / traditional colors and at the risk of offending some, find the V85 color schemes a visual affront. Hopefully a black or silver framed model with a more primary color(s)...
I haven't mounted them as yet - having some back issues and doing a tire change isn't happening for a bit. May bite the bullet and have the dealer do it.
As far as tread blocks, the rear bias has similar looking blocks but they are slightly larger and deeper than the front radial. Pirelli...
Interesting that Guzzi appears to put MT60's on their new Rough variant with radial front and bias rear so things can't be that bad. I'm not overly concerned as I seldom do highways and even then it's rarely over 70mph. Maybe they figure that the 'typical' V7 rider rides this way and isn't doing...
I wouldn't mind a little extra leg room for my bum knee. Would it be OK to use the 390mm shock on the V7 III or better to go with lower pegs? Would it change the steering feel all that much if I'm running a 110 front tire?
The Pirelli MT-60r radial is available in 110/80-18 but only offers a 120/70-17 rear which I think will be too small. The Metzler Tourance dual compound radial DOES come in the correct rear size. What are folks thoughts on mixing brands of similar style (90/10 street/dirt) tires?
Other option...
I have read and had some experience with bigger block tires not working so well on wet roads. I ran Shinko 705s on my 800GS and found them a little worse than full street tires but was willing to make that trade off. I also posted on the radial tire thread that the Pirelli Trail II that I loved...
I ride on dirt/gravel roads and have had good success with the Pirelli Scorpion Trail tires. Would like to put them on my bike but when looking at the sizes, the front is bias while the rear is radial. I'm thinking it's a bad idea to mix the two types even if they are the same brand and tread...
I noticed my TC at #1 kicked in a little when I first started riding the bike. That was in January, in NJ w/ lots of salt and some slick spots, and with brand new tires. The last couple weeks, with things warmed a bit and the tires are scrubbed in, I only noticed it once when accelerating over a...
Any opportunity to check this? No particular rush - just thinking of some cosmetic updates and I'd rather put a different fender on the back and keep the stock unit in a cabinet for the eventual resale.
Can anyone tell me how similar or different the V9 & V7 III rear frames are? I really like the look of the Roamer rear fender and am wondering how difficult it may be to mount one on a III Stone.
