I can imagine the differences are not caused by flat or roller tappets but by the spreading of serial models itself.
I personally own a Stelvio EU2011 model and have the surging problem very intense, but other bikes of the same model/year I have driven have it differently, some not so...
I personally own an EU 2011 Stelvio and had a bad cam shaft and bad tappets which were changed under guarantee at about 10.000 km.
Would you be convinced that the problem is solved if you had a failed valve train ?

thats really curious - my model 2011 (=US 2012) should have new cam design, I suppose - but it revs 8000 so quick that I really have to be very careful. I seldom rev so high, but the bike is able to do it very quick.
I suppose there is something wrong with your motor, even if it works fine in...
but you have to distinguish between products made by chinese companies by their own and between products made in china but unter control of european, american or japanese companies. there is a big difference in qualtiy and Q+E.
the chinese scooters you know have nothing to do with anything...

There are no rollers in any Stelvio! Anyone who told you so, isn't trustworthy. If there are, I need to see the first picture showing them. The AC engines don't have them
