    Stelvio idling issues

Hi Mocanuck Yes, it sorted out the problem until the day I sold it (and I understand it still runs fine). Basically, if I recall correctly, the butterfly valve (blade) that sits inside the throttle body 'tunnel' needs to close the air flow off entirely when the throttle is closed, so that the...

Service warning and triangle - again

Yes, replaced it with a 2016 Super Ten. I just got tired of servicing the bike without local support in terms of parts and know-how. Guys actually started phoning me for advice on how to fix them (and Grisos). However, that did change recently (end of last year) with a new importer of Aprilia...

Service warning and triangle - again

I sold my Stelvio in Dec 2020, but just to confirm, I never saw the service triangle again.

    .Norge fuel gauge

Yes, it seems to be working normally again, so relieved!

    .Norge fuel gauge

Same issue on my 2012 NTX, always reading empty. Pulled the fuel pump assy, float not punctured; cleaned the tracks with a tiny bit of metal polish and an ear bud, then cleaned the residue polish off with contact switch cleaner. Checked that all the little wires make contact and looked for...

    Removing fuel line quick disconnect

I think it is OK to post this link here? Nice short demo on YouTube. Only difference is that it won't squirt if you follow procedure above.

    Stelvio idling issues

So, my idling issue is finally sorted! The specialist I took the bike to here in Cape Town (tunes/preps and also rides race bikes) took the throttle bodies off, noticed something odd and adjusted, wait for it... the sacred screw! He said my problem was wear related and he could adjust for it...

    Stelvio idling issues

Update... Cleaned the stepper (idle control valve) with the bike idling as per suggestions above (I removed the air box in order to get right to the U-shaped rubber hose that goes from the air box to the stepper). No change. Eventually decided/realised I've reached my limit of mechanic skills...

    Stelvio idling issues

Thanks, I should've looked in the parts manual. It is shown below as item 20, the "Min.regulation engine", part # 896540. Item 2 is the "Potentiometer", obviously the TPS (part #981010). Does the stepper motor on a Stelvio operate a valve/needle/whatever? by means of rotation, or is it a...

    Stelvio idling issues

I've been away for a while... I tried the method through the air box by lifting the lid only, but I can't see the exit point from the air box to the upside down "U-tube", so spraying throttle body cleaner in the U-tube is a shot in the dark. I'll have to remove the battery and battery holder and...

    Stelvio idling issues

Thanks Steve/John To clean the throttle bodies and the stepper using carb cleaner, I have to remove the airbox, right? How does one clean the air bleeds without removing the throttle bodies, or do they get cleaned automatically when spraying carb cleaner into the bodies? All of this is done...

    Stelvio idling issues

Hi all, Time for remote diagnostics/ideas/hints again, please... My Stelvio NTX (MY2012) runs like a champ as soon as it's on the move, the engine runs smoothly, no surging, dropping, nothing like that. Basically, the bike pulls like train once on the go. BUT, as soon as the rev's drop to...

Service warning and triangle - again

Hi Glen, No, the service triangle warning is gone since I've replaced the Crank Position Sensor, I don't get it anymore. It's been more than 2 months now...

Service warning and triangle - again

So I replaced the Magneti Marelli Crank Position Sensor with the Facet one, it's been 6 weeks now and no more ECU errors, no more starting issues either. Bike runs and starts beautifully. Below some pics of the two sensors, I think the culprit is the very sharp bend in the old sensor's wiring, I...

Service warning and triangle - again

Oh boy, the bike is starting to act up again with ECU error 54. So, I have decided I'm going to buy a new phase/rpm sensor because I've convinced myself (perhaps incorrectly) that it is the phase sensor that's busy failing. Reason? Sometimes the RPM dash needle drops to zero, it's hardly...

Service warning and triangle - again

Finally got the bike running again. I *think* it was the ECU ground, even though it was secure. I loosened it, cleaned the surfaces, sprayed some terminal cleaner, and tightened. Also checked the resistance of the rpm sensor again, it measured 660 ohm. Cleaned its connectors too, and every other...

Service warning and triangle - again

Thanks, John, will check the gap. I did measure the resistance last night and it was measuring above 800 ohm, but will check again tonight. Will also power it to see if there's a state change if I flag it. Do you know the numbers for for this? (close to zero volt when flagged?) Any idea if a...

Nah, it was properly secured (dry around the flange)
