hydraulic valves or not? Cali Stone 2002

Hi, It looks like a standard head from your picture. The original hydro is blanked off where yours has screw and locknut. After the recall work for hydro engines the tappets were set using shear screws and painted red. Use the recommended oil and you'll not go far wrong.

Taller & harder saddle for a Norge required .

I had the saddle of my Breva 1100 rebuilt and raised by P&P Seating based somewhere just South of Birmingham in 2016. I don't know if they are still going. I've seen their workshop, seem to be pretty well organised and workmanship is good. They also do postal work but for something like this...

    Cold and tires

To add another variable, lower tyre pressures allow the tread grooves to close, limiting the tyres ability to shed snow, slush, water or any combination. My bike 1 day old. I rode the bike home. The main roads were okay, the side roads a little more interesting!

    rear wheel failure

Jason, The nipple and threads are at the rim end of the spoke. The flared end of the spokes had broken off inside the hub. The bike had been fairly neglected by previous owner(s). There is unlikely to be corrosion with stainless and none was visible, hence my logic that the drive plate had stuck...

    rear wheel failure

I have never owned a V7 so this may not have any merit; - A number of years ago, on my Cali, I was slowing gently for the traffic in front, down to about 15mph. Then on accelerating as the traffic cleared the bike wobbled at just over 20mph. Thinking I had a puncture, I stopped to check, and...

BB TONTI REGISTRY and pic thread

All going well (first time I've tried uploading a photo), the attached photo is my 2003 California Stone which I bought in 2014 and attache a Watsonian sidecar in 2015. VIN ZGUKDC4203M111324

    Cylinder Head Gasket

The tool I have is flexible, has a grab, a magnet and a light. I bought this because I thought it would do a bigger variety of jobs. Maybe I didn't try hard enough or haven't learnt the knack yet. One cylinder left to do so time to give it another try. Also, so far, none of the cylinders have...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

Makes sense. I can't get the hydraulic slugs out with my flexible grab tool without taking the barrel off. That and I've probably been looking for an excuse not to do the work! Cleaning off old gaskets is my least favourite job. Both on the Titanium are now done. Since I retired my motivation...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

Further to the above, the o rings on the short studs that sit below the barrel were missing from both bikes. The Titanium has had the recall work for the cams/cam followers done and the Stone hasn't (both hydros). On the Titanium, the o rings were seriously hardened (22,000 miles) and were the...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

Job done. The bike fired up first time as expected and no oil leaks. I'll take for a short run tomorrow and if all goes well, which it should, then my Cali Stone which has developed a similar, but not as bad, leak on the left cylinder is next on the list. Thanks again.

    Cylinder Head Gasket

I spoke to the dealer today and had, what I would call, a good exchange of words. Apparently their mechanic has no experience of models as old as this, so would prefer not to do the job. Perfect, straight answer to a question. I now know exactly what I have to do and the dealer goes up in my...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

I get your point, and maybe I didn't express myself very well. It's probably the dealership problem as opposed to a mechanic problem. The pressure to finish a job in record time to make a bigger profit. I take my car to a local self employed mechanic/garage and always get a far better job than...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

I have consulted both the workshop manual and a well respected Guzzi mechanic and both say the same. T.D.C. so that the valves are closed, take it to bits, release the oil from the hydraulics, put it back together. It should clank a bit (couple of seconds) until the hydraulics a full again. Dead...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

The bike is running fine, so you could well be right about the o rings. Thanks for the advice. I was wondering whether to tackle the job myself or get a shop to do it. I've still got a few inquiries to make on that front. Thanks again.

    Cylinder Head Gasket

My 2004 Titanium (hydraulic) has started leaking oil from the right cylinder head gasket (sufficient to wet my boot). It's a while since I delved into an engine to this extent and never a Moto Guzzi. I have the tools, checked the torque requirements etc., but I wondered if there are any tricks...

How do I get to the immobiliser ?

Jim, From my experience, if there's a problem with the electrics then the error code is likely to be wrong. At least it has warned you of something. I've had some strange error codes over the years. Not trying to tech my granny to sook eggs but, check battery, fuses, earths, then every block...

Piaggio Active Radar Tech - Coming soon to a bike near you...

It would be laughable if it wasn't serious. They invent a radar system for cars that make them safer(?), except they don't always recognise a smaller vehicle. Therefore, as usual, the motorcycle people have to sort it out by inventing something to make car (driver) notice the bike. Whatever next?

Neutral Light failure on heat soaked engine

The neutral light switch on my B1100 failed having done about 50,000 miles. I went through all the connection checks to no avail and eventually took it out, checked it's operation which was OK. I found in my collection of old unloved washers one that was the same size and type as the original...
