    Test rode a BMW R18 B today

Great looking bike you've got there!

    California 1400 Fluid Changes

I guess I'll take the opportunity of this thread to vent a bit. Gripe #1 is that it would have been MUCH easier to add engine oil if the dipstick had been put on the opposite side of the bike from the sidestand. Although, maybe there is a reason that would have been unfeasible? Gripe #2 is that...

    Test rode a BMW R18 B today

They are great looking bikes, and I really thought that I would like it, but that vibration and lack of power left me unimpressed.

    Test rode a BMW R18 B today

Thought others might be interested to know how it compares to the MG 1400. I have a 2014 California Custom with hard bags and a windshield, so it it is somewhat similar to the BMW R18 B. The BMW has a very comfortable riding position, and the adaptive cruise is great. However, it vibrates badly...

    V7 850 service reset

Thanks, it should be a good reliable bike for her. I still have my Moto Guzzi (and really like it), but I am anything but a brand fanatic.

    V7 850 service reset

Ended up buying a used 2014 Honda NC700X with less than 1,000 miles on it for my wife. Thanks all, for the friendly advice.

    V7 850 service reset

Actually, my parents literally built a small business from the ground up when I was a very small child, and my mother ran that same business the whole time that I was growing up, as my father had a stroke right after they got the business up and running, which left him disabled and unable to...

    V7 850 service reset

BTW, I perform all of the routine maintenance on all of my automobiles, and all of them allow me the option of resetting the service indicator.

    V7 850 service reset

My "axe to grind" is with Moto Guzzi. Producing bikes which must be taken to a dealer to have the service indicator reset is unfair to people who are fully capable of performing most of the normal maintenance themselves. I have no problem whatsoever with honest businesses, and am happy to pay...

    V7 850 service reset

When I was told of the extra work that they had performed, I asked what I owed for it. THEY said that there was no more owed than original quote. I pay my way, and I do not cheat people, or businesses. They are located in a small town, and a good reputation means more to them than short term...

    V7 850 service reset

The other side of that story? I had a Mercedes for several years, and every time that I made an appointment to have the car serviced, the people in the service department seemed surprised (and irritated) when I would wait at the dealership while they worked on it. They expected that I would...

    V7 850 service reset

For the last few years I have had a 2014 California Custom which I have put over 20,000 miles on. I bought it used, and it was beyond the warranty period when I got it. I have never had any kind of issue with it, and I do all of my own maintenance. Thanks to this site, I have a code which...

    V7 850 service reset

I am considering buying a new V7 for the little woman, but I have heard that the service indicator wrench that appears on the instrument panel can only be reset by a dealer. Since I do all of my own service, and the nearest dealer is over 300 miles away, this would be a deal breaker for me. Can...

    Oh No - Not Tires

I suppose that many people would consider much of what I do, and have done, throughout my life to be "dangerous beyond belief", and yet here I am, just turned 60 years of age, and healthier than probably 95% of the people my age. I am not recommending that others follow in my footsteps...

    Oh No - Not Tires

I just got back from a trip to Las Vegas. Ended up being about 1,750 miles round trip, with the last day being 800 miles. I now have about 14,000 miles on the rear tire, and it looks like it would probably go another 50,000. Pretty good for a $80 tire! It is a 195/65R16.

Does anyone use the Pioggia mode in heavy traffic?

I use "Piggy" mode when the little woman is on the bike with me as it really smoothes out the throttle response. Less helmet bumping.

    Head light woes

I was very interested in this thread because my headlight low beam is pathetic. It seems like I can outride it at 25mph. As for the switch near the brake lever, when I switch it up I have a low beam headlight, but no dash lights, and no high beam available. Is this the way it is supposed to work?

About to buy a 2014 Custom

Have about 17,000 miles on mine. Zero problems. Runs great, and rides great.

And if you were asking me, no, I have a custom fitted with the hard bags and windshield.

    GT Bar Risers

Just got my risers a few days ago, and haven't had a chance to ride much with them yet. I needed them more than most people probably do, as I have a couple of bum elbows, and cannot completely straighten either arm. So far, the feel is great. I will come back and add to this post after I've...
