Just got it firing!
I finally got tired of being slow-cooked riding on days over 80F so I eliminated the CAT with the Mistrel pipe making it much more bearable. Cutting the weight nearly 5 pounds and the added bark when hammering the throttle were nice benefits as well. All appeared seamless except for a couple of annoyances I’m hoping to get some help with. The first is the idle instability. Cold start idle sometimes doesn’t hold without a little assistance and once warmed, can wonder up to 1500 rpm down to dropping out and stalling. Doesn’t happen often but annoying when it does. Second is after restarting the bike after a short break (5-20 minutes), the triangle of death appears within a few miles of starting out then shuts off a few more miles down the road for the remainder of the ride until I take another break. I can’t feel any difference in how the bike runs when the light comes on. No ECU faults. DSB codes show X’s under M column on 01, 02, 05, & 06. The first two are related to the immobilizer/transmitter. Is it possible there is some interference between it and my garage door opener key fob on the bike’s key ring? Mysteriously the door opener batteries only last for a month or two as compared to an identical one on my moped that lasts for over a year with similar usage. I removed the opener from the key ring with only slight improvement having fewer ghost appearances. DSB 05 is fuel sensor which, if is the same as what’s in the fuel tank, appears to work fine. 06 is the air temperature sensor on the air box which ohm’d out perfectly across 3 different temperatures as compared to the manual. I double checked all electrical connections which were clean and secure. All my research seems to point to the stepper motor needing a cleaning but my manual doesn’t make any reference to it. I keep the bike in excellent nick service-wise having changed out inner and outer plugs, valve clearance, oil/fuel/air filter, fluids, etc but never anything to do with the FI system. Bought the bike with 14k and now has 39k miles. My Breva puts a huge smile on my face every time I throw a leg over it especially now that it doesn’t roast me alive on hot days but would rather not deal with the aforementioned annoyances and appreciate any advice. Thanks, Tony D.
