My new to me 2020 California 1400 Touring is currently in shipping channels to my nearby Guzzi dealership. It has the passenger backrest/sissy bar but no luggage rack. I am used to having a top case or at minimum a rear rack to carry items not small enough for the side cases. So I am interested in suggestions and advice on the possibility of finding an add-on luggage rack that will fit onto the backrest if there is such a thing. I am not wanting to spend the money required to remove and replace the existing backrest. Appreciate any ideas including photos if possible.. My Cali should be delivered by mid-month, hopefully!

Ha ha well that is a novel idea isn't it? I guess I should have in fact started there. I just haven't spent any time at the dealership yet as I only arranged via phone for them to take delivery of the bike for me because I don't have an accessible place for the HaulBikes shipper to deliver it. I will certainly ask and see what they might have to fit my needs when the bike gets here. I just would like to get a start on things by seeing what fellow Cali 1400 owners might have come up with. But your point is well taken :)

Probably your only option apart from getting a rack made would be the Hepco Becker backrest and rack, which would be available through the store on this site. I know you said you didn't want to buy one but maybe if you did you could sell your back rest only to offset some of the cost.

That's exactly what I need and may end up doing as you suggest. I have seen some add-on racks advertised that attach to the sissybar but they all seem to be designed for Harley's and I don't know if any would work on the Guzzi. I will be able to check dimensions once I have the bike in hand. Was hoping someone here has found something that works. I don't plan on putting a hard top case on but having a rack would provide support for a sissybar bag. Thanks for the info.
