2TB V7 Classic - occasional rough idle/stalling

Hi everyone. New Guzzi V7 owner and guzzitech member here.

I purchased my first real motorcycle 4 weeks ago, a 2011 V7 Classic (2TB) with 8000 miles on the clock. I'm absolutely in love with the bike, and I've put over 2k miles on it already, we've had amazing weather here in the UK since I bought it. PO put some reverse cone megaphone mufflers on it and it sounds absolutely amazing, the best sounding bike I've ever heard for sure.

My only gripe with the it is that sometimes it will idle rough, usually when I'm sitting at a red light on a hot afternoon. Sometimes the engine will even cut out entirely which is obviously a bit of an issue. As soon as I am moving it runs perfectly as far as I'm aware. It also occasionally pops on the decel when I am really going for it, but nowhere near enoughthat it bothers me (infact I quite like it :) ).

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on this idling issue, I'm assuming it's to do with the exhausts making the bike run too lean at idle? If there are any fixes for this I would love to know.

A throttle body synchronization and TPS reset my help However it sounds like the ECU needs to be re-mapped. I suggest you contact Todd direct. todd<at>guzzitech.com
 
Thanks for the advice, that would probably help. I must say that about 95% of the time, the bike runs and idles just fine as far as I can tell. Having done some more digging on here, I was going to see if removing the O2 sensor would make any difference. Is there anything inherently wrong or dangerous in doing this? I appreciate its not a long term solution and it may not even do anything except give me a warning light, but I feel like it's worth a shot to further understand this small issue I'm having.

Removing the O2 sensor won't help. They run lean to begin with and if there's a free flow exhaust even leaner. This is what you need:

I just re-flashed the ECU on my Norge after a few mods and the transformation is nothing short of incredible. Better starts, smooth acceleration at any RPM, smoother idle and no surging at slow speeds in traffic.

I tried riding without the O2 sensor in earlier today, noticed no major difference in running and as predicted it gave me a nice yellow warning light (switched off again when I reconnected the sensor). Didn't experience any particularly poor running today either, but it's really quite rare for it to happen especially on a cooler day.

Based on what you've said, as well as the many gleaming reviews for the reflash tool you've suggested, I think I have just gotten used to the bike running in a less than perfect state. I have never ridden the bike with the standard cans, and this is my first proper motorcycle, so I think there might be a bit of "ignorance is bliss" going on here.

The reflash tool will set me back about £400 which is more than I had hoped to spend to sort out this little niggle with the bike, but I get the impression that once I have it I will appreciate where the money has gone. I plan to keep this bike fairly long term so I think it is worth me getting it running right.
