• Ciao Guest, The owner of this website and GTMotoCycles.com lost his home completely on the morning of January 8th in the L.A. Wildfire Storm. Most of his neighborhood is gone, and a few friends were killed along with their pets. The GTM SHOP and STORE are functioning normally, but we DEMAND EXTREME PATIENCE on orders as we are a SMALL business and Todd usually has his hands on nearly every order before it goes out. You can find more info on a post named L.A. Wildfires in the USA section. Our heart and best go out to everyone in this horrific disaster.

Checked the oil on the Norge yesterday and found it was a bit low. Decided I’d add some before riding it again.

Today, I rode the Monster to work instead and got busy on the Norge as soon as I got home from work. Seriously folks? All that just to add a bit of oil? Really? What a Faff.

More work than adding oil to any bike I’ve ever owned or any car or any/all of the 2 combined. Hope this won’t be a regular occurrence once I get everything where I want it.

Remember not to chase the full mark. About half way between full and add is usually the sweet spot. Some folks have figured out an easy way to add oil to these Norges. A search may reveal the answer you need.

Aside from leaving the lower bits off, I found no other tips in my search.

I read quite a bit about oil level before hand so I didn’t go in blind. Set the oil level near to the halfway mark…..after about the 4th add/install fill bung/check level/remove fill bung rinse repeat etc…

Total add was around a half quart. Yet that small amount required nearly an hour due to that series of steps.

What a faff. EVERY other bike I own….thats about a 5 minute affair if I’m screwing off and having a drink while doing it. More like 2 if I’m not.

There is a template that goes on lower & you drill a big hole. There's your access. Guzzi also made the rubber to go in the hole.
Ding, Ding, Ding this was 2008 Where you might find that now? Good Luck I had one in my work books. Not there anymore bout 10yrs now.
You might look on the inside of lower and see if there is a circle in that spot, that's the hole spot.

You may want to do a few shots before you grab that hole saw.

That has already been done. It works to check the oil just fine. Adding it….less so. Maybe if it were designed to be checked while leaned over, and the dip stick was on the opposite side. Then it might actually be useful for more than checking the oil level.

I’ve considered making a dummy bung that I could use to space the dip stick to the proper distance. Then once the fill bung was out, just use the dummy to check the level after each add.

That would speed the process up somewhat. It wouldn’t make it a 5 minute affair, but it would save a bit of time. Plastics would still have to come off to get a reasonable angle for a funnel.

Also, now that I have a better idea of how much I need to add when the oil is on the bottom of the cut out on the dip stick….that cuts down the number of add/check cycles required.

IDK….sorta reminds me of equipment I used to work on from before the time when engineers designed it to be serviceable.
