Hi everyone, purchased my Eldorado in November last year, a retirement present to myself after 15 years on a FJ1200. Was originally going to get a California but love the look of the Eldorado so bought that and have been adding accessories to make it suitable for touring. Have a top box and black gel seat on order to finish it off, the top box in the pic is borrowed from the FJ and the seat is borrowed from a friend who replaced it with a gel seat on his California. 2000 kms so far and love it more each time I ride it, off to Tassie at end of February with the wife for Ulysses AGM hence the touring accessories. Hopefully it will prove as bullet proof as the old FJ.

Nice - something in the water in SA?

Hi Oz1200, not so much the water mate more the revenue raisers, now they even hide in the bushes and cover the speed cameras with camouflage nets, hence we are parking the sports bike and getting cruisers, well I am anyway.

Better get a governor fitted to your throttle then, John. These 1400 bikes might look like a cruiser, but can honk along very well when they get some gas. Your licence is not safe!

If I lived in Oz, I would have to hide my Adaptiv TPX somehow, and rely on the bluetooth to my helmet to receive any alerts.

Hi Dave, know what you mean it is very deceptive and unless I'm concentrating I get a few surprises when I look down at the speedo, but I am learning to relax and enjoy the scenery instead of chasing everyone else on the road although it is fun to tag on behind when someone comes past a bit quick and give them a surprise when they check the mirror. Do you find the TPX gives you enough warning, I have read that by the time a lot of detectors go off it's already too late to slow down.

No radar detector is full proof, but usually (but not always) you can receive sufficient warning. In Kiwiland the predominant detector the authorities use is the Stalker running on the Ka band. The TPS is very effective, especially as most enforcers are lazy and leave their radar running continuously. They still catch all the speeders who don't have a detector, but hopefully not me. :sweating:

If a laser hit is received, apparently they've already pinged you, but I've received a few hits and not been stopped.

Radar vs Lidar is a good question. Radar gives a pretty good indication of a speed, whereas Lidar gives a very accurate speed determination. But, (and there is always a but) I believe Lidar needs a full 2-3 seconds to correctly latch on to you - if it does and you are speeding, you will get booked. it really depends on the operator and how fussed they are at the time of the "alleged" offence.
