Anyone else struggling filling the rear tire with air?

I find the rear tire air valve incredibly difficult to access with most air pumps.

Because of the placement of the valve (dead centre in the wheel, with little movement side to side) and the size of the wheel, the placement of the shaft drive and the disk brakes, it can be actually impossible with some air pumps to get the pump onto the valve due to the angles involved.

Anyone else have this issue? Any handy tips on how to access the valve? It's such a simple and stupid thing, but so frustrating. Am I doing something wrong??

I have a 2016 V7 II Special with the spoked wheels if that is any difference.

I'm using a Topeak Joe Blow XO pump with a screw on attachment on the end. It attaches straight inline to the valve (i.e. doesn't have an angled end fitting).

To get it to screw on properly I run the hose from the other side of the wheel hub so that the hose is basically straight inline with the valve, with only a slight bend around the hub. This seems to make attaching the end fitting to the valve quite easy.

I have a 2015 V7 Stone with cast wheels and a 90 degree valve stems. I take it thet the spoked wheels do not?

Fit a right angle valve stem, or purchase a valve stem adaptor.

I would only use this when filling. The centripetal force of the spinning tire can, over time, break the rubber valve stem. My PC800 Honda has an angled rubber base valve stem with a metal angle on the tubeless cast wheels from the factory. Take this photo and imagine the knurled attachment part is the rubber that goes through the wheel. They put a support on the wheel to hold the metal part up so it does not flex. People who have removed this support have had the rubber base crack. Myself I installed all metal stems.
 
Kiwi Dave - that looks like exactly what I need! I'm going to get one. I'll probably just use it for filling as per abbienormal's suggestion.
