Aux Brake Light on B11

I've searched here for a complete answer to this with no luck. I'm trying to add aux brake lights but running into the CAN bus (or whatever MG uses in their harness) problems. There are 3 wires going to the MG talight: a ground, a brake light wire and one for the taillight.

I tapped into the brake light wire to use it as a trigger to a relay. The aux lights work and the brake light works but not the taillight. One suggestion I read said to add a 1N4007 diode in the brake light wire between the tap and the brake light. No mention on whether that worked.

Has anyone successfully done this kind of thing and what did you do?

I put a Givi case on the back of my 2006 Breva, it had 6 small brake light bulbs incorporated in it, I tapped into the brake light circuit directly and had to put in a diode to stop the problems you are having, I have since replaced the bulbs with with 6 red LED's and left the diode in circuit, it all works fine. I think you will find the relay coil is completing a circuit to earth giving you your issues
