At the last service (108,000 miles) I wasn't happy with the condition of the gearbox drain plug thread. It's never been overtightened during the machines life but because the thread is quite shallow I understand are prone to wear/damage. Rather than risk a stripped thread on the next service @ 114,000 miles, I bought a Horusdy 97357 200cc extraction pump in readiness for removing the oil. I used the pump for the first time yesterday and it worked a treat. I managed to remove 490cc of oil with just 3 strokes, leaving just a nominal 10cc of old oil in the gearbox.

I must admit I was sceptical if this method would work, but being able to change almost all of the gearbox oil without touching the drain plug is a big bonus. The only obvious downside is not being able to check the magnet on the drain plug for any debris.
