Changing the air filter on a v65!!

The v65 has a rectangular air filter box set between the cylinders, and it is a nightmare to remove.

Their must be a trick to doing it, if anyone knows, I sure would be grateful.
 
One would think so, but it's quite a bit different. The element lifts out the top of the air box, it can not be pulled out the front, I tell you it's a bitch! :lol:

Hmmm, well then be sure to document it here for us when you do. :whistle:
 
I guess there are really only 2 ways:
-either eliminate the original and go for pods
-drop engine/transmission from frame and get to the filter from above.
I went with the pods option...but given the size and area of the standard filter you would probably only have to change it infrequently so the second way is maybe not as crazy as it seems.Taking the inlet manifolds and battery out didn't work for me !
 
If you have the same filterbox system as the 85 Lario I own the fix is not too difficult. After trying PODs without much luck I reverted to the original airbox system but carefully cut out a window at the front. This was then reattached with a hinge to the box. Now all I do is remove the frame fairing, take off the original airbox spring, hinge up the window and slide the filter out. Refitting the new filter is just a reverse of above. As the cut is on the outside of the filter there is no issue with air entering through the cuts.
 
If it anything like a Nevada its a bugger to do.

Remove the little brackets thats support the airbox. Remove the battery and right hand carb.

Slide the airbox back in to the battery space and you should be able to get it all out through the space where the carb was.

7.6 REPLACING AIR CARTRIDGE FILTER(V6S - V6S SP) (fig. 80)

For this operation proceed as follows:
• remove fuel tank;

• from the cylinder head-cover connections re-move both oil breather ducts;

• disconnect and place in a proper place the rev counter drive(A);

• unscrew wing nut fixing filter lower housing to the support; rotate support (e) in order to facilitate the lowering of the housing, this after having unscrewed fixing allen screw;

• remove the three rubber holding rings (0) ofthe cartridge (E) cover; lower the housing and remove the cover complete with cartridge (F);

• the re-assembly is more easy if the cover is assembled complete with the cartridge already fitted in the cover same. Pay attention to the cartridge holding stud in the housing;

• complete the re-assembly operation by following the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
