Clutch Master Cylinder mod gone wrong

I had my clutch rebuilt on my 07 Norge which really improved the bike. However the clutch lever was annoyingly stiff now. Not horrible just in stop and go traffic it really test my slightly arthritic grip endurance.
I thought I did enough research here to resolve the issue myself with a new radial 16mm master. Also wanted to save money so I found a Magura HC1 16mm for a great price, on Ebay. I now know should have bought the Brembo offered here instead.
The Magura looks great. It mounted up fine. It bled very easily. And it was as hard as crushing walnuts bare handed. I tried everything. Back to stock.

My question to the group is why?

I know Magura makes the HC1 in 12, 14, 16mm for the clutch side pumps. I suspect it may not be a 16mm as listed. Forgive my ignorance on this. I did use the reseach function here and seem to have drawn the wrong conclusions.
 
I suggest you use the contact tab in the STORE and discuss your needs. There are two radial clutch masters listed with different size pistons available. Discuss with the folks at the Store and I don't think you will be disappointed. I learned long ago, that going the inexpensive route first never pays off.
 
Magura stuff is hardly inexpensive or low quality. It should be every bit as good as Brembo. You find both on high-end motorcycles. This may have been just a sizing problem.
 
As an up date, I was able to find a size stamp on it. It is a 16mm piston.
However I did some research on internet. As far as i am able to understand it, lever ratio plays the bigger part of easing the squeeze. So a 16mm piston will only shorten the stroke needed to actuate the slave cylinder.
So according to my reading on the Ducati forum, a 16mm piston will only make the sqeeze more difficult than stock unless a 19 lever ratio is built into the design.
I think my inability to explain it well reflects my only partial understanding of it.
On the positive note, all the bleeding and rebleeding of the clutch has made the stock clutch work slightly better. On the negative I am getting some fluid spray on the dash panel. So seals may be going out.
It's a conundrum to keep putting money into upgrading a 15 yr old bike w a salvage title. On the other hand I really enjoy this old Norge. This particular used magura was about a $150 savings over the Brembo. Unfortunately I will have to re sell it.

Might be best to just eat it and call it a lesson learned.
 
I'm all about learning.
So if I am to take a lesson beyond that I should have invested my money in the proven Brembo set up sold here instead of gambling on a cheaper solution on ebay based on information sourced from a BMW forum...it is that, for what ever reason, the HC1 does not work with my Moto Guzzi. Further, a Ducati forum is likely not going to help shed light on the mystery either.
In conclusion, one should not try to be more clever than they are learned in the name of saving a few dollars.
