Tuned and Synch'ed
I was reading a lot of threads about converting rims from tube to tubeless and want to try to pull this together in one spot. I have (the original) Akront rims from Spain, 2.5x18 front and 3.5x17 rear - both spoked of course.
Done one attempt so far:
- sealed the spoke nipples and holes in the rim bed with rubber cement and then applied two layers Gorilla tape over it (probably didn’t let it cure out sufficiently)
- bought those 90 degree angled tubeless valves which have a rubber sealing cap on either side of the rim
- inserted about 10 oz of Slime after mounting the tubeless tires (Dunlop 404 front, Bridgestone Battlax BT46)
- I was able to get the tires set and inflate to 32 respectively 37 psi with no problem but lost always about 5-10 psi in a day so went back to inserting tubes
Before I start again I wanted collect some feedback/input from the ones here who have done it successfully (I lost track in what thread I read the comments).
My plan is to use that 3M sealant instead of rubber cement for the spoke nipples and let it properly cure before putting that 3M tape over it - if anyone can tell me the exact types that would be appreciated. Do I also need to extra seal that tubeless valve? I read somewhere that because of the curve in the rim the two rubber washers might not seal it well enough? Maybe that’s where the air seeped out?
Thanks for your comments!
