When should the bike be brought in for the first service? The manual says 932 miles, I think. But I've read numbers much lower than that here in the forum, like 500 or 600 miles. And I'm a little worried about the valve clearance closing up fast, as I have also read here. I would have thought the clearences would get bigger, but I guess they can also get smaller as the valves seat. So now I'm totally confused; I like the bike and want to take care of it. Should I get the bike in early or not worry about it and go 1,000 miles before I bring it in?

I just pulled out the manual for my 2009 Stelvio. It says the run in period is 932 miles or 1,500 kilometers. Is that when you guys brought your bikes in, or did you bring them in sooner?

My advice is do the valves and oil at 500 miles-ish and then re-check the valves somewhere between 1500 and 2000 as they do seem to like a bit of time to bed.

Generally speaking the pushrod motors will open up their clearances, (Although this is counter-intuitive.) and the Hi-Cams close 'em up.

Once I got beyond 10,000km on mine the poxy things remain obstinately correct, or so close to correct I regret taking the rocker covers off!!!

I ended up checking the valves around 500 miles and they were fine (not too tight), so I went all the way to 930 mies and they were still fine. I think the factory sets them loose at the beginning to account for the tightening up.....
