Picked up my V85TT from GTM in October and rode it back to Utah. Huge thanks to Todd and his crew for their excellent work! Based on my positive experience with my Eldorado (which has similar mods from Todd), I had no hesitation sending the V85TT straight to Todd for the fueling and exhaust upgrades.
Just a note, I did not get an opportunity to ride this bike stock, so I won't be able to do a direct before and after comparison. But I'm familiar with how my Eldorado was before the mods and may be able to make some inferences to what I experienced after the mods.
All said, we did the:
- full fuel kit linked here (the flash tool, the power commander (PC6), and auto-tune (AT))
- full werks exhaust
- SAS kit
- air filter & airbox mod
The exhaust sounds excellent and is very well made. It's got a deeper growl than you might expect. Not super loud where it would be annoying to others. Also doesn't drone at interstate speeds. If it's made similar to the California/Eldo 1400 exhaust then it's a precision slip fit with no gaskets or clamps needed, my mechanic was really impressed.
The throttle response is immediate. I also noticed this with my Eldorado after the mods. Before it was just a bit sluggish, even in sport mode. But the same incredibly snappy throttle response is here on the V85TT as well. Was an absolute blast to ride around in the city streets.
Less "lower rpm" issues. This is just an assumption for the V85, but my Eldo did not like to be below 3k rpm, would be a bit herky-jerky and just stutter making low speed maneuvers more of a song and dance. Something I got used to and could work around, but this was nearly eliminated with the fuel/air mods. Noticing similar behavior on the V85, handles lower rpms just fine.
One thing I trust but can't verify is operating temperature. Knowing this is air (fuel) cooled, throwing more fuel at these stock lean bikes should make it runner cooler.
There are only two things I'd want others to know regarding the auto tune (AT):
1. the small wires that feed into the device are a bit finnicky to keep tightened in place. make sure you have the AT placed somewhere that doesn't pull on these wires and keep a small flat head screwdriver with you on the bike - you may need to reinsert and tighten the wires if they come loose on the road.
2. on a cold start, wait ~30 seconds for the AT to kick in before riding off or you'll be in like a limp mode. this happened to me a couple of times and caught me off guard - but once the AT kicked on it was fine. (question for anyone: I don't have to do this with my Eldorado and it has similar mods (PC6, AT, etc.) - is this just is what it is?)
All in - it was a blast to ride back to Utah and I can tell based on other's feedback here these improvements are not unique to me. It's well worth investing in this bike and doing the full list of modifications above. Do not think that you can save money or get X% of the performance others received by not doing the full kit, you won't get the performance you want for the price you want to save.
Any questions or comments let me know - thanks all.
