Like the title says, I have the opportunity to by an ‘08 Norge for not a great deal of money.

I have contacted the seller and set up an appointment to view the bike and hear it run next Saturday.

Mainly to hear it run and make an offer. I viewed the bike today and found it badly in need of a rear tire.

Front probably needs replacement soon also. Maybe 12-1500 miles left in it. Maybe. Didn’t check the date code or anything.

IOW, right off the bat I’m gonna be into it the price of a set of tires minimum.

Left side valve cover looks like it’s weeping a bit. Other than that, the bags look a little rough. More so than the rest of the bike. I noted it has GPR exhausts too. Aside from 90 degree valve stems on the wheels I noted no other recognize-able mods.

Seller notes that the fuel pump was just replaced but not how long/many miles ago. Bike has 33K miles on it and honestly, looks quite good for the mileage…beyond the bags anyway.

Any thing I should really be on the look out for?

I looked it over and noted no visible oil leakage beyond the left side valve cover. No crash damage either beyond that on the bags.

Any quirks or actual major things I need to be aware of?

Tires are a maintenance item, buy 2 new ones. (Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT) You'll be taking off the valve covers to set the valves anyways. Sync the throttle bodies too.
GPR is a nice upgrade. I have one. Big weight savings.
33K is nothing on these bikes. If properly maintained they'll last 100K plus easily.

SaddleB's are a bit quirky but you get a lot of technology and style with a great engine for not a lot of monies. My 07 has 50K miles on looks pretty good still with a staintune muffler. She requires lovingly looking after. It is not a souless but more reliable Honda, worth the labor of love with ease of working on. Definitely a head turner of Italian style.

I’ve done a valve adjustment on a V7. Cake walk really. Easier than a Ford 302 V8 and 6 fewer cylinders too. That part I’m not concerned about. Anything ancillary that isn’t Guzzi specific I’m not worried about either.

What I’m worried about are things like the clutch which doesn’t appear to me to be a simple task if it needs to be replaced. Anything that requires special tools to repair.

Those things concern me. I’m thankful that at least this forum and associated store front are a resource for addressing some of those concerns.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep reading and learning here. Saturday I’ll meet with the owner and see what history he has with the bike, start it up, check things like clutch operation and maybe ride the thing home….or to my office until I get new tires.

I went by and looked the bike over again after work today. The worn out rear is a Metzeler Z8 I think. It’s completely shot. I have doubts it will make it to my office parking.

The front is a Dunlop Sportmax….and the date code is 1212. 😲….not gonna chance that one either. Might make it another 100-150 miles….might make it 5. I’ll be back once I’ve either bought the bike or elected not to….but that’s a pretty low percentage possibility. Unless the clutch is stuffed.
