Hi, I am a newby here, a former owner of an SP1000 and a 1980 LeMans 11 - 1000, which I pranged badly in 1981. This unfortunately left me paraplegic, but I still hanker after a Guzzi of sorts. I know guys have messed with sidecars etc, but I would rather design and build a reverse trike. Finances, or lack of I should say, rule out the toys like Blackjack Zero and other kits. I am a mechanical designer, so I want to design my own, and I can get it built as finances allow. What I need though, is a drawing with basic sizes of a Guzzi engine, gearbox and back axle. Preferably a LeMans or SP1000 as those are the most likely donor bikes I could find here in SA, but failing that, any Guzzi will do to get started on a design. I would be most obliged if someone could point me in the right direction, or I am going to have to borrow a bike somewhere to measure up!

Many thanks, Brian

Try Haynes workshop manuals, they often had dimensions of swingarms and other individual components which may help. You'll need it anyway for rebuilding/servicing whatever you start with.

Buying a wreck as a donor bike is probably the best way to start, you can measure/dream/invent/design/create at will. The best part is all that time invested inside your head is great therapy from the crap of reality. :silly:

Reverse trike? Do you mean 2 wheels at the front like an old Morgan? If so you might get info through websites dedicated to TriKings (which were designed specifically to use Guzzi engines) or JZR (which used various engines including Guzzis). As they were both kit cars produced for home building it might be worth joining up to their forums and ask if anyone has technical drawings they'd let you copy.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune... I survived a crushing accident last December, and my guardian angels did a great job.

As for drawings.. Google is your friend. Somewhere is (minimally) some Tonti frame blueprints in cyberspace. The engine would be tougher, but I can say I've never seen one. Likely well guarded by Guzzi SpA.

Search BlackJack Zero here on the Forum. Our friend Kurt built one a few years back. You can ping him direct, he'll likely be of help.

Keep us posted on how your build goes. If I were you, I'd consider this design:
