Help with new V7 Special...dies when let to idle.

I appreciate any help with this mystery!! New V7 Special. Only 1400 miles on it. Has previously run great but now, I Started it and it will only stay on if I have a rev going. If I let it idle, it dies....starts up normally...dies on idle. I tried *warming * it up..no change. Even changed out fuses..no change. Now it won't even start (but battery is fine). Can't get an appt with the Guzzi dealer for a month and i want to RIDE.
Any thoughts?

Same reply from me as on GR, but may help someone who's not on there . . .

Does the V7 use a Stepper unit to control the Idle (controls an Air Bleed into the Inlets, by-passing the Throttle Butterflies)?
The CARC models do, and they can suffer problems with erratic idling/stalling if the Stepper Unit is faulty.

As it's a new Bike though, I'd contact the dealer first before probing anything yourself, tempting as it is . .
 
Check the spark plug boots. They have a nasty habit of coming loose.

The stepper motor is a real crude thing and is part of the throttle body along with the TPS and the ECU. It cannot be adjusted although the dealer can reset it.
 
Have the dealer check and reset TPS and check for updates or errors.
 
forgot plug wires. having had a Stelvio I know to be careful but at the 600 on the V7 one of mine fell right off. never showed any running / idling issue. snipped a 1/4" off and screwed it on right. other side took a couple of turns too. worth a quick look.

Interesting Update!
It started today and held a super choppy idle...barely held but did. It would spit and sputter on the LEFT side pipe. That pipe has discoloration from use but the right side looks brand new!! See pics below. Any thoughts on this?

Take it back to the dealer immediately. Either that muffler is clogged/restricted, or there is a massive fueling issue on that side. Likely the former. Keep us posted, and demand they replace the muffler either way.
 
You should be able to get an idea if it's a physical restriction in the Silencer.
With it idling (if it will idle reliably), hold your hands approx 6 inches from the outlets, one each side.
The pulses should feel even in strength and temperature.
Also feel the Silencers as they warm up from cold, see if that left one is getting much hotter than the right, as the blueing would suggest.

I'm guessing that it's a fuelling issue though, as Todd mentioned.
The spitting/spluttering points to that as well.

One other thing I'd try is swapping the Spark-Plugs over, see if that moves the issue to the other side.
Could be a dodgy Spark-Plug misfiring, maybe the unburnt fuel mixture is collecting and igniting in the Silencer chambers, causing that area to get hotter than usual.
 
If the dealer tells you a month I would contact your next closest dealer plus call and email Guzzi with the photos and the story of a month before your brand new bike is looked at. Not to mention another possible wait for parts.
 
My '13 Special had the exact same issue. Dealer knows about V7's that are dumping raw fuel down the left side exhaust? (dealer can better explain the reasoning) My dealer did a update flash and the bike ran perfectly after that. Cold starts and overall performance corrected. Piaggio still hasn't honored the left side exhaust warranty? To solve the aesthetics I bought a replacement one on eBay for $40. I have over 12,000 miles and the blue has not come back to the new exhaust.
 
My son recently picked up his 2015 V7 Stone with 203 miles on it. (it was an insurance wreck, total loss they said!)
The ignition switch was jammed, we worked around that just to start it on the day we trailered it home.
It ran great! He and I took it up and down the driveway, all was good.

Then, on one of the subsequent start ups a few days later, the poor thing stumbled and stuttered, ran rough and had a hard time to idle, sometimes just dying. He was pretty bummed, and I was busy madly reading several horror stories here.
I saw Deb's heat stained left pipe and nearly sh!t myself! My son's left pipe was starting to get a little tint to it, only the left.
After way too much imagination, I checked his left cylinder spark plug wire...thanks to this forum I now know it is a common problem.
Well, it's back to purring like a kitten after I pushed the plug wire on tighter. I mean, how can it be a fueling issue, there's only one throttle body, right?
