• Ciao Guest, The owner of this website and GTMotoCycles.com lost his home completely on the morning of January 8th in the L.A. Wildfire Storm. Most of his neighborhood is gone, and a few friends were killed along with their pets. The GTM SHOP and STORE are functioning normally, but we DEMAND EXTREME PATIENCE on orders as we are a SMALL business and Todd usually has his hands on nearly every order before it goes out. You can find more info on a post named L.A. Wildfires in the USA section. Our heart and best go out to everyone in this horrific disaster.

Hi all!

Recently, my 2015 V7 Stone, seemingly out of nowhere has developed an idle/performance issue. The best way I can describe it is when I start the bike up the idle seems a little low but also doesn't sound smooth. Also while idling and in first gear at low speeds there is a pretty consistent popping sound and the throttle is less responsive. But then when I get to a certain speed and RPM the bike takes off like a rocket unexpectedly. And traveling at a higher speed the popping noise subsides. There hasn't been any issue with stalling or any other performance until now. There's about 7,500 miles on it and has had consistent oil changes and service. I haven't done any performance modifications so as far as that goes the bike is the same as it left the dealership.

I know there could be a whole bunch of reasons this is happening so hopefully this sounds familiar to someone and can point me in the right direction. Thanks everyone!

For sure it is... so you're close to one the best... Moto International there in Seattle. Did you buy it there? Either way, I would start with them. Have them do a simple diagnostic check for you and see if anything turns up. Could be a myriad of things, or nothing at all. Let us know what they say.

Yea I figured that would be the smartest thing to do. And yes! I did get my Guzzi from Moto International.

So I've been tinkering around on my bike trying to figure out this rough idle situation and noticed this hose coming out from the bottom middle section. If I follow it up it seems to connect somewhere near the tank. Could this have anything to do with my performance issue? Where is it supposed to connect? Thanks again for the help!

That hose most likely went to the EVAP canister that was mounted on the back of the oil pan under the trans.

You have to know where one end actually is connected before you can tell where the other end goes. There are several hoses. There should be a hose routing illustration in the service manual, or a decal under the seat. A dangling hose could be anything. Again it just might be best to take it to Moto International. If nothing else they can compare your machine to one on the floor or in the shop.

That muffler is looking like it's turning blue. Could be a result of what's going on. Have you checked the plug caps as mentioned?

Yea that's crazy! I didn't notice that blue spot until you mentioned it. It shouldn't ever blue there, right? (Unless something is wrong). I did check the plug caps and everything seemed to be in order. Time for a visit to the shop:/

Thanks for the info. And you're right, I need to just take it in.

That blue spot on the muffler suggests that fuel is burning in the cat because there is a problem with the spark plug cap. MI knows what to do - they wrote a service note about it.
Also check that the exhaust nuts at the head are tight.

You are correct!

Just got back from MI and it was the spark plugs and boots. They pretty much knew right away when I pulled up. Easy and inexpensive fix:)
