Hello - I just tried to register and realized that I was already a site member, from a long time ago. I’ll start anew. I have a ‘02 V11 LeMans that has started causing me fits. I also own a ‘75 HD Sportster road racer that was built and raced by Dr. John Wittner in the 1970s, before he discovered Moto Guzzis. The Sportster is an amazing piece of engineering that deserves more text than I can fit here.

Welcome back. Hope you'll add your info to our Registry below on the LM. Sporty looks interesting. With the number plates on it, do you run it at Loudon or in AHRMA?

The Dr. John Sportster is very special to me. I got it in pieces from a dealer friend that Dr. John sold it to many years ago. I pieced it back together using period photographs and advice from Dr. John before his passing. It has period correct Thunderheads (whose rocker boxes have welded brackets that are suspended from the frame. Thunderheads are nearly impossible to find these days. It uses a sheet metal backbone frame designed and built by Dr. John. I do occasionally race it with the USCRA at Loudon, not not very aggressively as I’m terrified of crashing or blowing it up. I replaced the original Ceriani/Honda front end with an 850T3 front end as I couldn’t get the Ceriani forks to work well. Other than that, it’s pretty much as Dr. John intended.

I remember watching Dr. John tumble a Guzzi to the treeline after a crash at Roebling Road’s turn 1 in the late 80s. He went back to the pits, remounted, and went back to work. A legend, indeed!
