Hi all,

Been reading a few posts for a while but never actually contributed much here.

I’ve had my V9 Bobber Sport for almost a year now, and I absolutely love it. I had a few changes done before I took delivery.

1. Original flatboard saddle, because it complements the lines of the bike. Didn’t quite fancy the sport seat that came with it.
2. Crash bars, which were worth it, since I dropped the bike while parking (thought I had the kickstand out!). It all happened so quickly… the bike leaned more than it should’ve and I jumped off it, whilst still holding the left grip. The left crash bar hit the road and I don’t know if it stopped the bike from falling even further, but I yanked it up immediately. Have a small scratch on the crash bar now.
3. Cylinder guards. Might be overkill, but they look gorgeous.
4. 110 dB Hella twin horns, though I need even louder ones, because some drivers (the Belgians, and mobile phone users) deserve it.

No change to the rear suspension, though, as the Ohlin shocks work really well even on the brick-paved streets.

The best view of the V9 is when you approach the bike from the back, diagonally. So let’s say the bike is in line with your nose, and the best view is from the 7 or 8 o’clock side.

I haven’t ridden it as much as I want to, covering only 1000 miles / 1600 kms so far, mainly riding in the city. The main reason being that the seat is a nightmare after about 20 miles / 30 kms. Being my first bike, I put it down to lack of experience, but I’ve tried to get used to it, even losing about 30 pounds / 15 kilos in the process, but it just doesn’t help. I’ve tried to push myself by riding it around for about 60 miles / 100 kms, but by the end of it, my backside is sore, and the crotch has no sensation at all… except for the tingling when I get off the seat.

I can easily live with it for short rides, but if I have to travel to another city, I need a new saddle. So far I’ve not found anything that suits the style of the bike so well, compared to the original, but it’s either comfort or looks. Therefore, I’m looking at either getting the new thick solo seat Moto Guzzi has to offer, or having the current one updated. With a separate saddle, I could swap it with the original for longer rides; something I won’t have to do with a reworked one. I’m open to suggestions, though.

My country is flat and it can get verrrrry windy on the highways / motorways, so I mostly avoid them if I can. Had a 4-day weekend last week and we had almost gale-force winds for 3 of those days. Just sat at home and brooded.

My other niggle is with the throttle, which can get quite choppy at times. I compensate by using the clutch a bit more, so I’ve gotten used to it, but it can sneak up on me at times, especially around small roundabouts. I asked a guy working at the dealership about it and he said that it was normal. When asked if I could have the bike remapped, he said that I’d kill the low-range. Now I don’t know whether or not that’s true, but I’d still like, one day, to buy the ECU re-flash tool from Todd. I am avoiding it at the moment, because I don’t want to get screwed by the customs.

Next, well, sometimes I’d like to rest my right hand whilst riding, but without cruise control, it’s all or nothing. How do you all manage in such a situation?

The exhaust needs to be changed too, sometime in the future. The engine / clutch / gearbox has a whine, which is louder than the exhaust. I only get to hear the exhaust note properly when riding at high speeds… so not so much, I’m afraid. What I’m looking for is a deep, low-note rumble and so far I’ve only heard an Agostini (long), at the dealer, fall into that category.

Now, washing this thing is something I need help on. I live in an apartment, with a parking garage in the basement, so no way of washing it at the premises. I don’t want to park it on the street and do it, as I don’t want it to grab attention from unwanted people (my car was stolen from inside the garage last November). I could take it to a wash box, but that’d mean I’d have to ride there and wait for an hour for the engine to cool down before I wash it. My only option is to visit a colleague in another city and wash it there… which will have to be after the lockdown ends or eased even further. So far I’ve gotten by with cleaning it with wet wipes. What other methods / products would you recommend? I always have the dust cover on when the bike is parked in the garage.

I’ll add to the V9 Registry & Picture thread next time I ride the bike and get the VIN. For now, I'll try to add a couple of pictures here:

For more comfort you could try having the seat reworked by a specialist, they can add gel inserts and memory foam while maintaining the look of the original saddle.
For hand comfort try a Cramp Buster (see eBay).
For washing try a spray wash wax there are many available.

Nice looking bike - lekker!
I've gone for full length Mistral mufflers on my V7 III Special. They look the same as OEM and sound great even with the DB killers in. They don't have a Cat Convertor so I have got a re-map. Runs really well.
I also use a Cramp Buster - works well on longer runs and can be easily adjusted to suit.
Also for seat comfort, have a look at airhawk.com.au. These are great for the long trip and can be taken off when not needed.

beautiful bike !

a Todd remap will likely solve all your problems, and you'll love the sound. not cheap, but quality never is! except V9s actually have pretty good discounts sometimes...

anyway welcome and have fun!

My other niggle is with the throttle, which can get quite choppy at times.
Take a look and see if your throttle cable needs adjusting. I just did this recently and have noticed a vast improvement in how smooth the throttle is and no more choppiness. On my Anniversario there was always a tiny (really tiny) amount of play at closed throttle. So when I rolled on the gas from a standstill my hand would move a minute amount before the throttle moved, I just figured that was normal. Then the other day I decided to play around and see if I could get rid of that play. I worked the adjusters until there is no play at all, and OMG what a difference. I wish, wish, wish I had done this the day I took delivery. The amazing thing is that the throttle is much smoother over the entire range now, not just at open and close. I also notice a much smoother throttle over bumps, no more up and down on the gas when hitting bumps.

Costs nothing. Good luck.

Completely untrue, just read the Reviews on the purchase page; https://gtmotocycles.com/products/gt-motocycles-v7-v9-ecu-re-flash-tool -- and or the thread in this section. Also valid point on the throttle slack noted above. I am very nice with orders going out of the country for taxes. For the exhaust, there’s a handful of cheaper options on the market. See how many show you power graphs and/or have lifetime guarantees. Also, I’ve heard them all, and none sound as good as mine, or perform as well. I spend a lot of time in development on both... most others adapt simple and cheap muffler designs to fit the V9. Thanks in advance for the consideration and business.

Thanks, mate. Yeah, when I change the mufflers, I'll have to do a remap, so I'll need to get the ECU reflash tool first.

Regarding the Airhawk, does it move about in case you stand and stretch your legs at the traffic signal? It's an option I could consider as well.

The change will have to be done in any case. Have to lift that exhaust note over the whine. The stock one is OK, but the note doesn't quite match the bike...

That's a valid point. Now that you mention it, the dealer did check it, but since I'm new to all this, I never bothered checking it myself. Going to try it this weekend for sure.

Thanks a bunch, though!

Thanks, Todd. Though the exhaust will need to wait a little, but I'd still be interested in knowing more.

Can't get hold of an ECU reflash tool here, and even though I can order it right now, I have a nasty feeling about the customs. I'll need to wait for someone to pay me a little visit here first. In any case, I'll drop you an email with my questions.

Appreciate your help regarding this, though!

There's other options for flashing out there, most all of them are terrible. I ship worldwide daily, and have sent many things to the Netherlands. Welcome otherwise.

I used to use an AirHawk for several years - until I discovered the "Coleman MadDog Gear Comfort Motorcycle Seat Pad" -

Cheaper and (imho) muuuuuch better. I had about 50,000Km on my AirHawk. I tried out the MadDog on a trip from Albany to Tas, to the Snowy Mtns and home again. So far I have about 30,000Km on the MadDog and won't be going back to the old AirHawk. I've since done from Albany across to Adelaide and up through central NSW and Qld, across the Barkley, down through Alice and home again.

Try a MadDog and you won't look back.

Did you use this on a street bike or off road? I am looking for a seat pad to make long trips on my V7 III more comfortable. I was thinking of the Air Hawk, but love that this is so much more affordable. However it is very long and I an not sure how well it would fit the V7 III seat. Anyone try this on a street bike seat, or, how easy would it be to cut this down in size?

I had the stock seat and its definitely harder than the single seat that comes stock with the sport. I upgraded to single seat and I find it quite comfy for short rides vs the stock plank that hurt my butt after 3 miles.

Also, personally I find the look of the single seat to better suit the lines of the bike. I'd recommend you try it again, it might just work out for you.

As for the exhaust, I have the Agostini longs and I'm glad I went with them. I've kept the baffles in and its loud enough.

Use earphones to listen to it. Also, after about 50 miles, she has opened up and sounds a little louder than she does in the video.
