Some of these pops that have been mentioned. Did you ever hear them while riding at highway speeds intermittently? I took my MGX out for a quick shake down run after doing all fluids, new battery, and removing some crap LED's the previous owner installed. The idle is shaky warm or cold. If you rev the bike some and just let off the throttle it will die 2/3 times. Yellow exhaust check engine light is on steady. Once riding the engine revs beautifully and runs smooth. The only odd part is while cruising at 65mph there is a knocking sound just ever now and then. Almost feels like something tapping on the frame. Nothing is loose on the bike and it only happens every now and then. One tap. Wondering if that could be the SAS causing a detonation in the pipes or something. This bike will be a puzzle to get fully sorted, but it was a deal I just couldn't pass up.

Zach, so know that these bikes all require significant Guzzi knowledge, and some electronic intervention to make them run properly. Old school logic does not apply to most issues that arise. It's impossible to diagnose bikes via the internet, but I'll point you in some direction that you'll need. That said, please keep reading and researching here as everything below has been well covered here at length.
No, the bike should not pop during riding. This is a basic service issue, especially with the Check Engine Light (CEL) on. You need to find out what it's trying to telling you. That knock could be something deeper, or it simply could be a broken exhaust part as well covered on the thread below, skim it completely and check yours. I've seen many in my shop, including one MGX that had multiple (well hidden) cracks in the headers. The SAS is post combustion, so will not directly impact running outside of popping on closed throttle, and cooling the back of the exhaust valve. We've heard of several 1400s with replaced cylinder heads due to bad valve guides, from the factory in short order.
Best to you with it, and if you need parts to resolve this, the STORE tab above as you know. Appreciate the business.

Todd, very much appreciate the input. I’ll pull all the heat shields and fully inspect the headers/exhaust to check for damage. I can’t read the code causing the CEL without going to a dealer or getting the full fueling kit correct?

Welcome. Correct, dealer or fuel kit.
One MGX headers we had (in house) were cracked internally where they bolt to the motor. There’s holes in the double wall that you could feel the exhaust even at idle. Never would’ve been able to troubleshoot it online. All I can help with here.

Appreciate the move to its own thread. With this bike having an uncertain and mildly rough past it will take some effort to get it back to 100%. But it will get there. Looks like I may have to make the 3 hour drive to Dallas to get to the nearest MG dealer. I really want to know what’s throwing the CEL.
