Hi to all guzzistas out there, 2002 California Special Sport EV 1100,
I inherited a couple of nagging problems (minor but nagging) 1 was the gas cap that likes to psych me out by not unlocking enough that I just don't lock it anymore (till I get around to modifying/fixing it) Any suggestions welcome !
#2 the neutral light finally quit !
This interfered with me warming up the bike on it's sidestand while I suited up as per my habit , annoying, so the search began, forums etc were consulted and advice was sought, a couple of rabbit holes later and I figured out that MG liked to move this item around quite a bit between models! Grrr
After disassembling a lot of surrounding parephenalia looking for the blasted thing I finally found it behind the starter (just like the Le Mans 1000) after reading everybody elses woes I'm glad it is located here.
Relatively simple access, 2 x bolts to drop the starter (disconnect Batt first to be safe) and bingo there it is, single connector shielded by a rubber boot. trouble shooting is simple, short out the connector to frame and presto the light comes on followed by the re-assuring buzz of the fuel pump priming ready to start!!

Thus proving the wiring is fine and dandy, must be the sensor! Out with the sensor, test with a meter to further prove the problem. Next source the part..... argghh... $124 before shipping? Surely it must be a mistake, did anyone find an equivalent from a Fiat or a Lamborghini tractor or maybe even a Skoda I don't care/not proud but surely someone has found an alternative option?
Speaking of alternatives to consummables I found that a UFI filter # 3098900 cost $20.

I am still looking for a centre stand for this bike if anyone out there has an idea where I can find one?

It is re-installed until I find something reasonable in the meantime as the main problem with this system not working was the 'warm up' on the side stand I have installed a manual 'neutral' switch which facilitates the start sequence. A workaround that returns life to normal temporarily :)

ALL of these topics are EXTREMELY well covered here. Search and read. We likely have a used centerstand. Use the Contact via the (GTM) STORE tab top of every page, or three horizontal lines if on a mobile device. Also see the ARCHIVE tab there.

The sensor is just a blade that contacts a bump on the shift drum. Check it is straight and you have continuity from the blade to the terminal. The center stand you want is the 2003 and newer style. Hopefully GTM has one and all the hardware to mount it.
