I have an 07 Griso with 17000 miles. I did a routine oil and filter change and on start up there's no oil pressure. I used a hi-flo filter so I tried a Fram with no luck. I used 10-60 oil so I tried lighter oil. Still nothing. I pulled the sending unit and put in an adapter with a hose to see if there's any oil. Not a drop. I tried a suction pump on the hose as I cranked it without the plugs. I pulled the pan and checked the pick up tube. It's clear and good condition. Still nothing. It's hard to believe the pump failed while I changed oil. Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Not exactly, but close. Check the gasket between oil filter plate and the main block, replace it even. HiFlow is one of the best, they do research here in ATL area. Norges had bad pumps but nothing on the Griso.

I used a hiflo first, then tried a Fram. Both were filled before installing. A big problem is I don't know how the oil system works. Does the pump suck oil through the filter or pump it. I have a service manual but it's pretty worthless. I'm somewhat flying blind. Any help would be appreciated.

It sucks it from the sump and then pumps it through the filter on it's way to engine components .
As mentioned earlier , check for any possible leaks TO the oil pump .
