What do you guys use for oil in the gearbox and final drive? I think the manual specified 80w90 for one and 85w90 for the other; do you use separate oils for each? I've always used Mobil 1 synthetic in the final drive; I think it's 75w90, but that's close enough, isn't it? I had a BMW a long time ago that used gearbox oil, but I can't remember what I used. Everything since then (Hondas) has had the gears in the engine oil....

In the maintenance manual for the Stelvio the recommended oils for the bike is:
AGIP Gear SAE 80w 90 for the transmission
AGIP Gear MG/S SAE 85w 90 for the gearbox

This is the oil that I used ...... and you ask if you use separate oils for each? ..... Yes because they are different grades /standards.

Very important: For the Stelvio ......motor oil is not used in the gearboxes / transmissions.

Where do you get the oil? Is there anywhere on line to get it? I can't find it at any motorcycle store near me; and it looks like MG Cycle doesn't even carry it.

Maxima Gear Oil 75W90 in the gearbox and Mobil 1 75W90 (leftover from my previous bike) in the CARC

I've used Mobil 1 in the past for the final drive, but I didn't know if it would be ok for the gearbox too. If it's as good for the gearbox as it is for the final drive, I'll be very happy. I remember using it in the final drive; I'd leave it in there all summer and it still looked new when I changed it.

Thanks for all the replies.

I intend to use Rock Oil FD7 75/90 TDL fully synthetic, multi purpose, heavy duty gear oil in both gearbox and final drive, mainly because I get it at trade price.
Spec meets or exceeds the following:
API GL-4 & GL-5
MB235.5, 235.6
MIL-L-2105D
Ford Iveco
Volvo 1273.10 (97310)
MAN 3343 ML
Eaton (required for MAN)
ZF TE-ML
01/02B/05B/07A/08/12B/16B,C,D/17B
I have used this in my BMW R1150GS and BMW R100GS, and a mate uses it in his Guzzi California. I don't forsee any problems using this stuff.
