Hello everyone. :)

Almost a year ago I've bought my 1st vintage Guzzi - a 1989 Mille GT with low mileage (a little bit under 25.000 kilometers). So far, I've put on it another 3000 kilometers, but with frequent ignition failures that brought me back home on a trailer TWICE. :-/

There seems to be an issue with "brand new" capacitors that are in fact a new old stock, and maybe they loose quality in time. This is the most likely conclusion od "council of elders" at my vintage vehicle club. :))

I have conversion to an electronic ignition in my mind, it could happend soon, but... A friend of mine is persuading me to try an old style electronic transistorised ignition which are installed instead of capacitors, but along with the contact breakers.
Does anyone have experience with this?

I've never heard of a system like that and I've been with Guzzi machines since 1975. I've used and installed many Dyna III systems with good results. In the meant time have you tried new capacitors? They can deteriorate with age so new old stock may not be the best way to go. The part number for the condenser is 14715434.

John, (German) Sachse offers one, and it's quite good IME. We can source them for U.S. owners.

It was a kind of aftermarket solution in the 80s, it is not related to any brand of vehicle. Essentially, it was a way to cancel out the spark on the contact breakers.
Is that part number of an OEM Guzzi condenser? I've read that those aren't reliable too. :-/

I was talking to John above, not you.
