Oxford Grips

I've installed Oxford hot grips on my B11 (about a year ago). Now I bought them using a dirty 4 letter word "cash" and I can't find the receipt so no proof of purchase. My fault, I'm hopeless.

Anyway, one side is not working at all so I swapped the wires around and found both elements are ok, just the sending wire is faulty.

My question is, would there be major dramas if I just connect both elements to the one output wire? I am prepared to allow the entire unit to fail, I'm concerned about damage to the bike or even a small fire if it overloads. It connects directly to the battery.

Any one had any experiences here?

thanks

Robert

Iiiinterestiiiing
Rob is this the newer type with a separate control unit that uses separate On/Off and control buttons or the hard to use older model with the shitty led's. You might have issue with the black box on the later ones as it is often under the seat or tucked away close to the battery where you cant see it ? If its a earlier one (hold on I'll just nip out to the shed ..shit it's rainin) :woohoo: :woohoo: I'm back....Just pulled it apart and there is only one set of wires attached to the cicuit board so there must be a splitter further up the wire loom (probably the same for the later ones too). Conclusion ...piggy back 'em or search around up the loom and you'll most likely find wots come adrift. ;) ;)

PS nice day for a log fire and a glass of red....kym

Kym,

There's nothing under the seat except a separate fuse. Just one cable from the control box to the battery. It does have multi coloured LED's, with "+" and "-" buttons on the control box which also act as on/off. This is mounted on the handle bars.

BUT, I might be in luck. My very, very kind dealer (we gotta look after our locals), said to bring in the broken unit, with the original box, which I used to store the OEM grips that came off, and he would put in a warranty request for me. The box does say "2008 model" on it.

PS

"PS" you're right, the fires been going all day, it's toasty in here, and I'm waiting for knock off time so I can sit down with my own home brew Merlot. It's currently breathing in the kitchen.

thanks for your response.

On another forum it has been reported that replacing the stock cable plugs with spades or bayonets has cured all manner of ills. Could be worth a try.

OK, just spoke to my dealer and he informs me he has a brand new unit waiting to for me to pick up.

This is exactly why we need to support our dealers. He has just pulled off what I thought was impossible.
