Hi all,

I just picked up a 1993 California III. Decent shape overall, but the tank was left with fuel in it for about 5 years by PO. It has substantial rust inside it but the fuel system has been 'gone through', new fuel pump (I pulled the caps off so nothing has been in it). I ordered a fuel filter for it and was going to take the injectors out to make sure they're clean. The TANK is the big '?'... It has blistering under the paint on the right side, and when I water tested it it seeped out through the side of the tank when it was in the down position.

Is there a way to clean out the rust, line the tank (Kreem?) and weld on the outside to ensure it's good and solid? If so, what order do I do it in? I want to preserve as much as I can because I think it's a cool bike and would like to keep it original.

Thanks in advance.

Shawn

Probably best looking for another tank.
For what you will pay to a weld shop to have yours "fixed" you can probably find a good used one.
I think I have 6 tanks sitting on the scrap pile that are exactly what you are describing.

If you are going to try to fix yours it will need to be welded first, then sealed on the inside.

Do you know what other years/models tank will fit on my 1993 California II fuel injected?

Any CA III FI tank will fit the 93. I don't remember the first year of the CA III but I think the model started in the US around 1988 or 89. The 1100 tank I think would fit, but you lose fuel capacity because of the big dish out for the 1100 airbox.
