Here's some shots from the Frankin-Guzzi project a few days ago. The paint work turned out perfect (matched a V11 'Tenni" fairing part ordered from a dealer). The painter up here in Vancouver demurs providing me with the formula. He does however allow as that he will be happy to paint parts sent to him with the same color.

Tested the electrical system and it didn't catch on fire! ............. and as we all know, once the smoke escapes from inside the wire, it is HELL to get it back in.

Fantastic! Love that color, thats going to be really sharp. As far as the smoke goes I have seen replacement jars of smoke for Lucas wiring on ebay,. Looks great!

nice! round or square fin? what wheels? quit teasing!

Heh FGuz,

It's round fin based - 1000SP engine with 620X10 cam, 40 dellortos & Mike Rich LM1-ized & dual plugged (formerly) small valve heads. Using 850T barrels with JE pistons to 925cc (to maintain an acceptable cylinder spigot thickness). V11 Sport flywheel / clutch. 38mm ID headers with a Scorpion GSXR 1000 can adapted and modified to suit. Plain vanilla 5-speed via Charley Cole.

Tank & seat are from Manel Segarra / Guzzi Motobox in Spain. Fairing's a Magni from AirTech. '95 Sport 1100 Marcocchi forks. Hubs from a T-3 as is swing arm. Excel rims with stock spokes. Frame from an 850T with steering angle altered to 26 deg w/ 100mm trail & lower frame rails deleted, aft gearbox to frame mounts from Boris @ Bormi Racing in Italy.

Home-brewed electrical system with Valentine 1 radar detector & M25 "Blinder" laser jammer, remote helmet mounted display. Electronic Sachse ignition, Saprisa alternator. Oberon LED turn signals. Moto Spezial kombi gage

Lots of home made brackets, braces, stuff.

Should be more fun than 99 mo-fo's to ride.

Man if you got zapped with the kind of fine that the "speed tax collectors" hit you with up here, you'd call it a bargain. Anything 40 kph (24 MPH) over the posted limit is considered " excesive speed - dangerous driving" - getting right up there with DWI for consequences. If two of you are nailed at the same time, it can be called "street racing" & you can imagine what fun that is. Wild fines to start with then comes your insurance rate doubling.

So far radar detectors and laser jammers are not illegal in BC, WA or Oregon. In Calif. they are apparently.

not meaning to highjack this awesome thread but on the subject of speeding - here in the land of Oz the authorities have become addicted to the revenues from speed cameras putting them up everywhere...

In one state, Victoria, the cameras apparently all take 'head on' photos - so they can see who is driving if there is a dispute as well as taking the license plate... of course our bikes don't have front plates so now the govt wants to make front plates mandatory!!

Re:Project Frankin-Guzzi - Lt. @ End of the Tunnel

Speed cameras will eventually show up here I'm sure. The pay-off is too rich to resist. Little payroll increase and after installation completely automated.

As to enhancing safety on the road though, not much effect. Here in Vancouver there is virtually no traffic enforcement except for occasional radar speed traps. The chances of getting nailed for running a stop sign or light are essentially zero. Out on the road though, watch out for RCMP* Constable Bob with his laser gun.

AWESOME Geodoc! that is some of the finest work done. Love the dash and the whole front end... the triple clamps are from the sport 1100? did you use a steering stem from the T so it would fit the frame neck? or is there a spacer?
the bike is COOL!

Re:Project Frankin-Guzzi - Lt. @ End of the Tunnel

Heh FGuz,

Both triple clamps are from a Sport 1100 & came with the forks. Only had to shim up the top one with a 6mm spacer to get the fit. Stock 850T & similar steering head bearings work for the Sport 1100 steering stem.

For the front hub, I machined off 6mm or so from the inside of both T3 hub bearing carriers to get the right spacing. Got some slightly larger ID w/ same OD as stock wheel bearings to use the Sport 1100 front axle. Using a Sport 1100 fork brace and fender. Will end up having about 4 in. of tube between lower triple clamp & slider wiper upper edge & hope that with a bit stiffer fork springs (1 kg. / mm from Sonic Springs) they won't bottom out w/ their 4.8 in travel.

I just love the innovation and flair of Guzzisti- that bike is going to be great!

Instrument panel done. Windscreen installed. Forks together w/ 1 kg. / mm springs & 10 wt. Front fender mounted. Laser jammer antenna mounted.

Engine top end arriving next week from Mike Rich. Then crank goes off to get balanced. Should have the whole engine / gearbox together & installed by mid Feb.

Top 2 shots is under the instrument panel w/ cover off. Valentine 1 radar detector and part of the helmet display wireless transmitter interface (the other 2 boxes are under the panel). The little gold thing on the 2nd shot down, LH side is the daylight sensor for the headlight hi-beam flasher.

Bottom shot: under the clock and Kombi gage is sub-panel with Valentine 1 remote display / mode selector & to its left, accessory plug control switch (turns electric vest on & off).

Push buttons at left handle bar - upper / black: laser jammer & radar detector on-off. lower / red: Kombi speedo-tach LCD function scroll (total and trip odometer, contrast, system volts).

Gage panel has to indicator lights. Upper: laser jammer standby and transmit (jamming) and neutral light.

I'm trying to get the energy to dig back in to my project.

Re:Project Frankin-Guzzi - Lt. @ End of the Tunnel

so what is that project? Convert w/ grafted in late model engine?

I'm in Vancouver BC

Re:Project Frankin-Guzzi - Lt. @ End of the Tunnel

Finally getting the engine together:

The 620X10 cam took an eccentric cam dowel pin offset by about .015" to get the 105 deg. lobe center spec.

Flywheel is from a V11 Sport

You can see the std. breather outlet location and breather box drain locations plugged for different home-made set-up. The big banjo fitting where the distributor usually sits is the new breather outlet.
