Guys
What's the proper way to check and read oil level on the new 1400's? Should oil level be between both tick marks on the stick? There is no real markings to know for sure. I check it and see oil but honestly not real clear on it. Tips? Help?

Thanks

And the bike should be vertical, not on the side stand when you check. Once you know where it should be, rest the bike on the side stand, then mark the stick to make life easier.

Thanks guys! My dipstick doesn't say max or min on it. Has some ribbing between what looks like two tick marks. I couldn't twist the dipstick off when I got home, almost felt like it was welded on. I had to wait about 20 mins or so until the engine cooled down to check. Had a couple of old wooden boards to keep her pretty much vertical. Tomorrow I'll check it again and add this last step, have my wife check the level while I sit on the bike and keep her vertical. Thanks again gents!

This new crap all the manufacturers are saying to check the oil drives me insane. (actually a very short putt will do that.) Start the motor. Run till warm. Let set 65-2/3 seconds. Then check oil. If I am going to check oil level you can bet it is in the morning before a ride on the cold motor. What is wrong with marking the dipstick so it is correct then? John, your marking it on the sidestand is a good one. On each of my bikes I do it like they request and set the level. I then check it cold but vertical for a reference so I can do it cold from then on. You know what? On my 1400 I get almost identical readings. I run in the middle of the marks so as to lessen blow by plus I don't worry about it going down as so far mine has not moved.
