I've got a 1000SP project and changing to spoke rims. I have the hub for the rear disc and all that. But I have 2x new spacers. One is 72mm and the other is 74mm. I'd prefer to get it right the first time rather than tapping out the right side bearing to play around with it. Should the bearing be flush with the bearing boss to get this right? Secondly the cush drive drive plate retaining ring has a thin surface bonded onto it. Does this face towards the drive plate or the pinion?
I have post another couple of post unrelated pics too. One is the CNC titanium brake adaptors. The other is the relocation of the rear brake caliper. This is just off the shelf stuff so nothing that fancy. Needs some minor machining of the supplied spacer to make it work with the sombero type spacer.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Troy

The bearing spacers are used to determine the side load to the ball bearings. Insert one bearing and place a spacer. Measure the distance from the bearing shoulder to the top of the spacer. Distance to the spacer should be a few thousands I think. When you tighten the axle, the bearing is side loaded to remove side play. If too tight, the wheel won't turn easily, if too loose there is play in the bearing. I once had to add a 0.010 shim to a bearing shoulder as the bearings in that wheel were too tight. Check with the bearing manufacturer to find out the correct amount of pre-load.
