I've posted in various threads here before. But I wanted to make one central thread dedicated to me bringing the MGX-21 I picked up back to 100%. I bought this bike as a theft recovery with 10,400 original miles, no title, needing some TLC bike. It's being "restored" as a memorial to my Dad who passed earlier this year. The bike could be started with a flathead screwdriver when I got it. I've made slow progress thus far, but Todd at GTM and Scott from this forum have both been incredible in helping me. I have replaced the ignition, hard bag locks, and gas cap/lock and have new keys as the bike came with none. Now all of that works as it should. I also threw on a new set of tires, changed all the fluids, replaced the battery, and checked the valves. Next up I have some fiberglass repair on the fairing in order to get that mounted back on as it should be. Got some new front turn signals in as well since those were missing. I am trying to decide what to do about the speaker pods as they were pretty well thrashed. I'm good with fiberglass and may make new pods housing upgraded speakers. Or I may turn those pods in to a mount for my phone/nav screen and a locking compartment on the opposite side. That's an ongoing debate as I'm not much on external speakers on a bike.

Once the bike is back in one piece I'll be pinging Todd for his full ECU/fueling fix and a new full exhaust system. I know that combination will finally get this thing running the way it should run and sounding a world better than it does with the stock pipes. I'll be uploading pictures as well as things progress.

I like the idea of eliminating the speakers and making storage etc. I'm not a fan of external speakers either.
Well done getting the ignition and everything back in shape.

I'm really leaning to locking storage on one side with a phone holder and charger molded in to the other side. That would get FAR more use than external speakers ever would. I'll just use the stock speaker pods as molds to base the new composite pieces off of.

I previously owned a 1400 with Todd’s full exhaust system with the PC and Autotune. That combination made for a really nice running bike.
