Watch the video. The original 850 LM was a "big block" Tonti. The new "small block" 750-850, though power output may get close, is not held in the same revered level. The old big block engine had long legged power, a term used to describe that it slowly rev'ed out forever due to the heavy crank and flywheel.

So was it a larger bore and shorter stroke that made them the Big blocks and gave them more low end torque ?
Read my last sentence on post #5 above. Have you parked your V7 next to a big block? It’s pure mass physics. Below is a fun read.

 
When MG introduced the V35/V50 platform, followed by V65, Lario etc. over the years morphing into V-85, all others became Big Blocks. Tonti started with V-7 Sport, earlier Ambo/Eldo were Loop frames. Later came Spine and Carc, these are not Tonti.
Remember how Ducati's Pantah became the new generation of belt drive Duc's? This seems to be happening her too. Fascinating to see where it goes, V100 aside. I owned a LM 2 through the 80s.
50 years, the LM deserves a modern replica.

There are not a lot of Moto Guzzi’s here and the closest I’ve been to another one was passing Raven on the highway one of our rides in the opposite directions of what I call the Cantley-loop…
but I’m no closer to understanding what the Big Block really is?
