is this a renewable item each time the valve clearances are checked? I seem to remember a thread about a USA supplier selling reusable rocker cover gaskets but I cannot find the thread. Can anyone shed light on this please?

Crikey! my 100th post, do I get a badge, a round of applause or maybe perhaps even a dose of clap :D

Hi Fatal,
When I checked my valve clearances the gasket was reusable,
Its made of rubber Viton type material that can be reused.
Naturally when you remove the cover you will have to be careful not to pull it hard ....

The part# for the gasket is 872742 for the RH .......and 872741 for the LH.
I tried to look for a supplier.... also.... but couldn't find any!

And congratulation .... for the 100! :)

Found a trick while working on liked kind gaskets on different m/c manufactures.....

Clean the rubber gasket very well and dry it. Clean the valve cover very well and make sure you get all the dirt and oil out of the groove where the gasket seats and dry it.

Get some high temperature RTV gasket sealer, I used black and then apply the thin film inside the groove and seat the throughly clean / dry rubber valve cover gasket. Turn the valve cover face down on a flat surface (gasket side down) and weight with a warm 12 pack of your favorite adult beverage for 24 hours.

Re-install valve cover, put warm adult beverage in the refrigerator and go out for a ride. When you return the adult beverage wil be cold and the next time you adjust the valves the gasket stays put on the valve cover
