I know this is likely a stupid question... but I will take my chances.
Any idea how to extinguish the "service engine" wrench thing on the dash? (besides using a hook up to a computer).

Yep

Under the dash menu, you can select and then delete the wrench (usually just a reminder to perform scheduled service)
No tools needed

28315 should be the code you enter on the Norge (service codes are listed as a "sticky" on the first forum area on this site)
On my Griso, the mode switch on the left hand grip allows access to the menu.

Hope this helps:)

One glitch I discovered when cancelling the service wrench icon is that it can confuse the system if the icon is cancelled before the engine is started after an oil change.

I took my Breva for the first service to my dealer at 1000 km. The dash didn't show the wrench at that time. After reaching 1200 km it showed the wrench. I cleared it and it stayed away untill I reached 9700 km. I took it to the dealer at 10200 km for service and they cleared it. Now it should come on again at 19700 km. For what I know the wrench comes on 300 km before your bike needs service. It's simply programmed in the distance counter (or how you call that in English).

Ciao Dolf.

These designers are getting too clever for their own good. I didn't know that the engine could tell that it had just had an oil change.

Re:service required

My guess is that the brain needs a positive signal from the oil pressure sensor before it's happy. After an oil change the sensor is open for a few seconds before the oil filter and galleries fill sufficiently for pressure to build up and the sensor to react to it.

There has been discussion about faulty oil sensors. I think I have one on my Guzzi as the service light comes on when it shouldn't, then goes out after a restart. Clear the codes, good for a bit then it comes back on, then it goes out. bike still runs fine.
