I have a very pampered V85TT, all my bikes are pampered, Plus I'm very Anal about maintenance and such.

So the Shock of this shaft collar falling out of my engine area I almost called for the paramedics for the heart attack I was having..

I just changed all fluids, air cleaner and new battery. Fired it up and had a oil weep at the oil filter O ring, started to shut down and heard metal clicking, shut down fast and collar bounced of the skid plate I get this present, a shaft collar.

Now I'm going blind at looking for this.
A little rubbing wear on both ends. I had my face and hair in the oil at first for the Panic of my Guzzi imploding.

Battery and tray back out and lifted tank so I could see good in there.
What the Hell, this is not like a washer falling out this is huge.
I think I have spent so much time looking that I'm over looking some thing.
Friend looked and he thinks it does not belong to it and fell from some wear else.

I can build engines and bikes for 60 years, 322mph single HD engine streamliner, 201 mph open no fairing bike with a HD 1300cc shovster, plus much more.
I can not find the shaft this belongs to, what a loser !

HELP.

I use those all the time at work, I don't think it's a motorcycle part - I can't imagine where it would be used and I've never seen it.

That's a moveable collar. Not used on a Guzzi I've ever worked on. Kicked up from tire going down the road maybe. Maybe fell off your bench onto bike. All i can think of, or someplace you visited.

Thanks All.
After thinking about it a lot, I might have the culprit.

I had a Pack Rat get in my shop and had no idea he was there. I found out when I went to my reloading bench and 100 of fresh reloaded 10mm are just gone in one night, I was shocked They where on the desk waiting for a wipe down and inspection. I have not found them yet. Can you imagine that it would be like humans biting on to a VW and carrying it away.

It never entered my mind until reading your post and reassured me that it did not belong to the V85.

All my shaft collars are in a metal bolt bin with a lid, no way they could into it, so now is the mystery of where in the hell did it come from ??

Pack rats are amazing animals. They rob things and take it to there nest. They are not like Norway rats and they are kinda cute tell the take your stuff.
In caves out west they study the nest for the stuff the bring to it.

About 15 years ago I took a fuel tank tool box from a truck I was selling. I set it on pallets away from house and shop and after some time I noticed rocks all round it, glass, cactus, one of the cactus was a dreaded cholla cactus that was at least 100 plus feet from that cactus. Old reflectors, nails and you name it he took it. I'm in a Historic Gold Town so there is stuff every where.

So I let this go on for a few years because it was so amazing and the rocks where piled high as the top of the box. I sure wish I would of had video of it. This rat made a pyramid ! Then we had a year like this year when the rodents just exploded. I have 2 piles of little pyramids of wood bark in my wood splitting shed. They will die in a day or two.

Back to the box, I finally had to take is home away and he was to die. I really felt bad for that RAT because it was so amazing. I lost the pictures when a computer died.

Look up the little bastards.

A friend of mine just had some sockets taken a few days ago. They are choosey and on my desk there where lead loaded 10's and did not take one of them. The 10's must of been for his girl friend, they are all dead now.

I'm going for a ride tomorrow and my more stuff falling out, the little turds !

Again thank you guys for your help.

One of my race bikes.
