Hi everybody new here Walter is my name. I have a 2013 V7 Stone love hate relationship have had problems from the first day i got it, so have not ridden it much 1200 miles is All I put on it. So here is my problem I started riding it again and all is well until I look at the speedometer and find the needle is bouncing. Example I am going 50 MPH I think and the needle is bouncing between 45 and 55 sometimes more. I have looked through the threads and found other problems other members have had. The speed bolts are all there, the sensor is covered in a rubber boot with no cracks. I have never ridden in rain and last i washed it was a month ago also the elec connection into the speedometer is dry and fully connected. I don't want to just replace parts so hoping you all can give me ideas. The closes mech only works on Japanese bikes the closes dealer is 30 miles away and I don't care for them much. Thanks in advance for your help. Walter

Phew!! I read the thread title and was gonna suggest bolting it firmly to the top triple clamp. Guess that won't work then:shake:.

Hey WM62!
I am not that familiar with the V7's & even with newer bikes.

On some bikes (my Victory) with electric Speedo's / ABS / the speed sensor at the wheel has to be adjusted for the proper air gap.
You might be able to call the dealer & ask them.

Hi Vagrant & Trout thanks for the response. When you say "run a new ground wire" do you mean from battery to frame or motor? And on the space between sensor and speed bolts I get .559 mm. Will check what they should be. Here is what In tried I cleaned sensor boot with alcohol a little dirty no oil maybe some brake dust, Found a plastic clamp that holds sensor cable to brake line not connected so I connected them and I Disconnected battery for a couple of hours. Now speedometer is steady up until 45 mph. at 45 MPH and above it swings 5 to 8 MPH up and down. So I'm half way there. I'll try your ideas tomorrow and get back to you again thanks.
Walter

Is there anyone familiar with both this particular model speedo and basic instrument systems, from a technical point of view?
Is the speedo a simple moving coil movement? Without some very basic info you problem is much akin the length of piece of string.
If I can find out what type of instrument it is I can probably help you. I am a qualified and experienced Aircraft Instrument Fitter, Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Avionics Technician, Scientific Instrument Maker and Repairer. It sounds flash, but they're all closely related. It just means I can work on all sorts of instrument systems - if I know what sort of instrument system it is.

Hi everyone Thanks all for your help. Vagrant The ground from speedometer to battery did not work. New speed sensor did the trick.
Again thanks all.
Regards WM62
