Is there any info' out there re; floating the bevel box for my cafe racer project? thank you
 
You must be talking about pivot on axle w/reaction bar, seal housing on front of drive box and open splines. Similar to a Sport 1100
Look up Magni in Italy who makes the swingarm,. I worked on customer bike with the swingarm on LeMans SE
 
Yeah, the bevel box needs machining out to take a bearing & then a torque arm is fitted from the box to the frame, stabilizes the rear end.
 
I have a mill, lathe TiG welder etc, I can do all the work myself, I'm just interested to see how other people have gone about it. Im going fit a super charger between the cylinders, it's not going to be some old T3, ;-)
 
Had a guy here in GA wanted that swingarm in 09, Magni still had that kit for rear drive. 16yrs ago

Just looked & still for sale as a kit.

Hi Bug. I bought a project bike (a basket of bits) a few years back, it came with a trick rear end, developed for track use, then replicated for a few Guzzi enthusiasts.

I have some background details but cannot get to them for a few weeks (I'm travelling away from home).

It's now built up, but a work in progress - still to fit proper wheels/tyres, the cans are too noisy, the shocks are way too stiff, etc.

I'll need to strip the back end down sometime since I have a leaking oil seal - you are welcome to come and check it out when I do (this summer, perhaps?!) Located 20 miles south of Oxford.

It's not very clear in the photos, but the torque tube side on the swing arm has been removed and replaced with a box section that clears the drive shaft. It has a modified drive shaft with two U/Js. This is exposed - a gaiter would have been better.

The rear drive is completely free to rotate around the axle, constrained by the control plate and the torque rod. I can't recall whether there are any modifications to the rear drive housing other than a new front plate to replace the flange of the swingarm.

It all makes replacing the rear wheel an "interesting" experience since you now have two items to thread on the to the axle pin.

The exhaust cans (made in '87) will go back to Keihan Systems (Redditch) to be repacked. It's a lovely system but obnoxiously loud.

Any thoughts on softer springs for the (XJR 1300?) shocks would be appreciated! They are rock hard.

Pretty sure there are no drive housing modifications. The new front plate links to the vertical control plate, providing the torque connection into the housing.

That great thanks, the drive box must have a bush or bearing to allow it to turn freely, that's what I would like to see when I visit.
 
It's a few years since I did this (and it's been idle for while) but I think that is in the vertical control plate. I zoomed the box of bits, you can just see it.

We shall see when we pull it apart (again)

Instead of an early Tonti rear drive housing, you might consider using a later one. This one is from a '98 EV. There is more material around the axle area and the casting has the beginning of a support for the top torque rod.
