Tuned and Synch'ed
G'day crew,
just want to give humongous shout out and a big thank you to Scott for his procedure on how to synchronization the throttle bodies of a Guzzi.
Had the bike for a while now and it has always been a pain to ride around town and at low speed, goes like a scolded cat when you pin the throttle, but Mr. Plod is not happy if you are doing that all the time.
The bike has always been serviced by a reputable Moto Guzzi establishment since new and after ever service I enquired as the weather the bodies had been synched and have always been told all's great.
Well, I have just gone through the painful, expense wise, upgrade to the roller conversion a few months ago and was once again told all is ridgy didge. So, after a few trips the snatchy-ness and baulking coming off and on throttle was F-ing painful, so I bit the bullet for once all and I was going to try and solve this.
First off, I removed all the slack in both the top and bottom throttle cables as per the advice on this site, test rode and she was better but still shite to ride.
Then out came Scott's printed guide, also off this site, on how to synch the bodies and I followed it religiously to the letter. I checked and re-set the TPS then I went to close the air bleed screws and noted that both screws were opened, got oil temp up then set my Carbtune kit started the donk then I used the Kaoko throttle lock to hold her at 3800RPM with a fan to keep temps under control. Adjusted the fast speed throttle-body balance adjustment screw, tightened 3/4's of a turn, to get the balance indicators level, right side was up by about 2cm. Then I reset the TPS started the motor and let her idle, the Carbtune was showing the left side, worst side to get to the bleed screw, was about 3cm higher than to right, made the adjustment. Shut her down and prepped her for a spin, to say the bike was chalk n cheese would be an understatement, hell finally something that is pleasure to ride, even right down to 1500RPM in top gear she just pulls away reasonably smoothly given the gear selection.
THANKS MR SCOTTMASTROCINQUE
